On Sat., Dec. 20, the Carver Community Center was filled with anticipation, warmth, and holiday cheer as a brand-new singing group made their long-awaited debut. The group, fittingly named 345, took the stage for the first time at an event titled Soulful Christmas.
From the opening moments, it was clear the evening would be memorable. Families, friends, and community members packed the room, ready for a night of music that would uplift spirits and usher in the Christmas season.
The evening opened with a powerful performance by J’Lan Stewart, whose voice immediately captured the audience’s attention. He delivered two moving selections, including a stirring rendition of “Mary Did You Know.” With a dynamic vocal range and deep emotional expression, J’Lan created a reflective atmosphere that reminded listeners of the heart of the Christmas story. His performance set a strong and reverent tone for the night.
Soon after, the moment the crowd had been waiting for arrived. Frederick McClung, serving as both master of ceremonies and band leader, introduced Jenny, Ashley, and Brandy as they stepped onto the stage together. As the trio began to sing, the room was filled with rich harmonies and soulful sounds that brought smiles, applause, and even moments of quiet awe. Their selection of Christmas music and songs for the soul created a joyful, welcoming atmosphere filled with love, laughter, and connection.
The band itself was a star-studded combination of old school legends and young dynamic musical craftsmanship. Members outside of McClung were Jeff McClung Sr. on bass, Calvin Harris Jr. on auxiliary keys, the legendary Darnell Smith on congas, and Kelby Walker on drums.
McClung later shared his gratitude and pride in the evening.
“We are so thankful and grateful for each and every person that came to support 345,” said McClung. “Despite it being the final Saturday before Christmas, the event was well-attended, and the crowd was very engaged the whole night! I’m very proud of 345 — Jenny, Ashley, and Brandy — for their hard work paying off in execution.
“Thank you also to the band for providing great accompaniment. A very special thank you to JC Barnett and Carver Community Center for helping make this debut event successful!”
Adding to the warmth of the night was delicious food prepared by Ms. Maxine, which helped create a true sense of fellowship.
The meaning behind the group’s name was also revealed, representing each member’s high school graduation year—Jenny in 2003, Ashley in 2004, and Brandy in 2005. With their debut performance, 345 set a beautiful tone for the season and left the community looking forward to what’s next. Merry Christmas to all.
