The Eastern Comets are built to swim. Bolstered by their newly renovated pool, the boys’ and girls’ varsity swim teams hosted the Tipton Blue Devils for a good old-fashioned drubbing on Dec. 16. The boys left Tipton in their wake, 128-31.

Tipton was overmatched from the start, bringing a smaller team to the pool. And Eastern capitalized on its advantage. Seven Comet swimmers set personal bests, and several of them attempted new events as the team refines its line-up.

Eastern featured Ethan Heck as a quad winner, taking the 200 medley relay, the 100 fly, the 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay.

He was joined by a trio of triple winners. Jacob Kerns found success in the 200 medley relay, the 50 free, and the 200 free relay, while Evan Lapp registered wins in the 200 free, the 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay. Grant Kerns also took home three top finishes in the 100 free, the 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay.

Double winners included Hudson Bedwell in the 200 medley relay and the 100 back and Reagan Long in the 200 medley relay and the 100 breast.

Other winners for Eastern included Amos Green in diving, Garrett Condon in the 500 free, and Reid Shedron in the 400 free relay.

The Eastern and Tipton varsity girls swim teams also competed, but results were not available.

Eastern’s boys’ and girls’ varsity swim teams will take the rest of the year off, but will return to competition at Lewis Cass High School on Wed., Jan. 7. Tipton returns to action at Clinton Central on Tue., Jan. 6.
