Operation Blue Horizon invites the community to a candlelight vigil honoring the lives lost in Minneapolis and those impacted by the violence and harm happening across our country. This gathering is meant to hold space for grief, reflection, and collective care during a moment that has left many feeling angry, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn.
The vigil will take place Wednesday, January 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Rhine Hall, 507 N. Union St. Candles will be provided. Community guest speakers will share reflections on the current state of our nation, followed by a faith leaders guiding a prayer and moment of silence in remembrance of the lives lost.

Tickets for Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo’s 2026 “Doing the Dream: community banquet are on sale through Jan. 29. The banquet, featuring Chamique Holdsclaw, a powerful mental health advocate, Olympic Gold Medalist and WNBA Hall of Famer, is set for Thursday, Feb. 5, in Hingst Hall on the Ivy Tech Kokomo Campus.
This is the 22nd year Ivy Tech Kokomo has presented “Doing the Dream” events designed to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The 2026 event is focused on the role mental health plays in living a successful life. The keynote speaker, long hailed as the “female Michael Jordan,” has lived the heights and depths of athletic success and mental illness. Her presentations emphasize the importance of good mental health to the success of our students and our community and offer hope and help to others negotiating these challenges.
Tickets for the Feb. 5 banquet are $60 each and can be purchased at this link: ivytech.edu/DoingtheDream or by contacting Miriam Thomas, development director, at 463-298-0925. All proceeds support the Ivy Tech Kokomo “Doing the Dream” Scholarship as well as mental health services for students at Ivy Tech.
Once again, Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) is speaker sponsor for Doing the Dream, which annually brings leaders from throughout the community together with a distinguished speaker to address issues of local, state and national importance.

Mitchell joins Community First
