Sometimes, God reminds us that we already have what we need
I’m finding God more and more in the small, quiet details of my life, and I’ve learned that those moments often speak the loudest. This is one of those stories.
Recently, I’ve shared that I’ve been dealing with some health challenges. Along with that has come a handful of medications, each with its own purpose and instructions. One particular medication on my list says to take half a pill twice a day as needed to help with itching. I had been taking another prescribed medication consistently for weeks, and during that entire time, I never experienced even the slightest itch. Not once.
One day, out of curiosity, I decided to call my nurse to ask about the wording on the bottle. As it turns out, medications can serve multiple purposes. The medication I was taking regularly was primarily meant for the main issue I was dealing with but had not caused any side effects. The other medication—the one clearly labeled for itching—was meant to be taken only as needed. Up until that point, I had never felt the need to take it.
Then something changed. About a week ago, I started itching. And not just a little—it was constant and uncomfortable. I kept checking my skin, expecting to see a rash, hives, bumps, or some visible cause. There was nothing. No explanation, no obvious trigger. The itching was real, but the cause was invisible.
Naturally, I started typing out a message to my doctor. I explained what I was feeling and asked for something to help. I was about a hundred words in, ready to hit send, when something stopped me. God brought something back to my remembrance. Suddenly, I recalled the medication that had been prescribed weeks earlier—the one I hadn’t needed yet. The remedy had already been provided.
That moment immediately reminded me of Scripture, where it says that the disciples remembered what Jesus had told them only after it was brought back to their remembrance. That’s exactly what happened to me. I deleted the message to my doctor and took what had already been given.
That wasn’t coincidence. That was God working in the small things—guiding, reminding, caring. Sometimes God doesn’t give us something new. Sometimes He simply reminds us of what He’s already placed in our hands.
