Kokomo Civic Theatre presents wild comedy Feb. 27, 28, March 1
Kokomo Civic Theatre’s next show is “The Revolutionists” by Lauren Gunderson (“Silent Sky”), a “hold-onto-your-seats theatrical adventure, a wild and raucous, affectingly poignant social commentary.”
Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, February 27 and 28, with a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, at Havens Auditorium, IU Kokomo.
Four beautiful, strong women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Caribbean rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris.
This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection that ends in a song and a scaffold.
Note: The Revolutionists contains adult language and is not recommended for children under 13.
Melissa Jenkins is playing Olympe de Gouges. Toni Price is playing Marianne Angelle. Molly Lewis is playing Charlotte Corday. Reilley Cessna is playing Marie Antoinette.
“The Revolutionists” is being directed by Steve Hughes. The production is made possible, in part, by the Howard County Commissioners, the Hingst Family Fund of the Community Foundation, the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation, The Arts Federation, the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $16 for senior citizens, and $14 for students (through college).
