He challenges us to forgive when it is difficult
There is a story that sits close to my heart, one that continually brings me back to the depth of God’s love revealed through Jesus Christ. It is the story of redemption, of how Christ came into the world, willingly gave His life, and endured the cross so that humanity could be restored in relationship with God the Father.
Life has a way of presenting us with moments that cut deeply. We encounter hurt from others, sometimes in ways that leave lasting wounds. In those moments, it is natural to feel anger, disappointment, or even a desire for distance. Many times, those feelings seem justified because the pain is real. Yet, in the quiet reflection of truth, we are reminded that none of us stand above needing mercy. We all have moments where we have fallen short, made mistakes, or caused pain to others in ways we may not even fully realize.
This is why the message of Jesus is so powerful. He did not come to rescue those who had it all together. He came because none of us did. God’s justice is perfect, and without the sacrifice of Christ, humanity would remain separated from Him with no path to restoration. But through Jesus, a bridge was formed, one built not on human effort, but on divine love and grace.
At the center of this truth is reconciliation. God, through Christ, reconciled us to Himself, not holding our sins against us but offering forgiveness and new life. In the same way, we are invited to extend that same spirit of reconciliation to others. This calling challenges us to forgive when it is difficult, to seek forgiveness when we have wronged someone, and to release bitterness that tries to take root in our hearts.
Reconciliation is not always easy, but it is transformative. It reflects the heart of God and brings healing where division once lived. As we walk in this truth, we are reminded that love is not just spoken, it is lived out through grace, humility, and mercy.
So, let us choose forgiveness. Let us embrace reconciliation. And let us walk in the same love that was freely given to us through Christ.
Amen.
