The Haynes-Apperson Festival Queen Pageant is making its return as part of the festival’s historic 50th anniversary celebration, marking the first time in more than 15 years that the pageant will be held.

This revival brings new energy to a long-standing community tradition, offering young women the opportunity to grow in confidence, develop leadership skills, and represent the Kokomo community. The pageant will take place on June 17, 2026, in downtown Kokomo, and is open to young women ages 16–21 who live, work, attend school, or regularly attend church in Howard County.

“We are so excited to have the pageant return,” said Haynes-Apperson Chairman Paul Wyman. “The timing is perfect as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, and this adds the opportunity to celebrate some incredible young women in our community.”

The pageant will be directed by Chanteal VanCamp, a former Mrs. Indiana hailing from Howard County. She explained how she feels the pageant will benefit young women.

“This isn’t just about a crown,” said Chanteal VanCamp, Pageant Director. “It’s about creating a space where young women feel seen, build confidence, and step into leadership within their community, especially during such a milestone year for the festival.”

Contestants will compete in several categories, including:

* Opening Introduction & Presentation

* Private Interview

* Evening Wear

* On-Stage Question

* Essay Submission

The winner will be crowned Haynes-Apperson Festival Queen and will receive an official crown, sash, and bouquet of flowers. She will make festival appearances and be recognized at community events. She also will receive gifts from pageant sponsors and will receive coaching from VanCamp in anticipation of representing the community at the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant.

“This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 50 years of the Haynes-Apperson Festival,” said Wyman. “Bringing the pageant back is a way to honor tradition while creating new opportunities for the next generation.”

Applications are now open, with a deadline of June 1, 2026, or until all contestant spots are filled. Interested contestants can apply online at haynesappersonfestival.org or https://forms.gle/PUXiMbhP6BDRyLZq7
