Kokomo Civic Theatre will conclude its 2025-26 season with “Disaster!”, the 1970’s disaster movie musical by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick. Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, with a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17 at Havens Auditorium, IU Kokomo.
“Disaster!” is a side-splitting homage to disaster films (“The Poseidon Adventure,” “The Towering Inferno”) which features some of the most unforgettable songs of the ‘70s. “Still the One,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Sky High,” “I Am Woman” and “Never Can Say Goodbye” are just a few of the scintillating hits in this hilarious musical comedy with a book by SiriusXM Broadway host, Seth Rudetsky.
Lounge Singer Jackie (Sierra Mack) with her daughter Lisa (Chris Herda)
It’s 1979, and New York’s hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque. Also attending is a faded disco star, a sexy nightclub singer with her 11-year-old twins, a disaster expert, a feminist reporter, an older couple with a secret, a pair of young guys who are looking for ladies, an untrustworthy businessman and a nun with a gambling addiction.
What begins as a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to multiple disasters, such as earthquakes, tidal waves and infernos. As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive and, quite possibly, repair the love that they’ve lost… or at least escape the killer rats.
The cast is made up of both new and familiar actors. Jordan Grainger is playing Chad, a young man looking for ladies. Noah Cicalo is playing Scott, Chad’s friend. Dustin Huddleston is Ted, the disaster expert. Clarissa Vasquez is playing Marianne, the reporter. Jake Howard is playing Tony, the owner of the floating casino.
Jackie (Sierra Mack) performing in the lounge
Sierra Mack is playing Jackie, the lounge singer. Christyana Herda is playing Ben/Lisa, Jackie’s twin children. Molly Lewis is Sister Mary Downy, a nun with a gambling addiction. Joni DeLon is playing Shirley, and Scott Foster is playing her husband, Maury, a couple celebrating their retirement. Toni Price is playing Levora Verona, a faded disco diva. Jada McDaniel is playing Jan, Tony’s personal bodyguard.
The ensemble includes Cheree Bachman, Mackenzie Bashore, Joyce Bower, Angie Bowman, Anita Burkhead, Lauren Cheshir, Tanner Davis, Kristen Flowers, Charmaine Herda, Riley Shutt, TJ Withington, Tim Zehner, and Victoria Zehner.
“Disaster!” is being directed by Chad Burchett and Gregory Wytiaz. Amanda Duncan is the music director.
The production is made possible, in part, by the Howard County Commissioners, the Hingst Family Fund of the Community Foundation, the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation, The Arts Federation, the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
Ticket prices are $23 for adults, $20 for senior citizens, $18 for students (through college), and $14 for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased online at kokomocivictheatre.org/tickets, by calling 765-454-8800, or in person at the Havens box office one hour before each performance and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, May 13 and 14.
