Death is uncomfortable, but don’t allow it to affect your daily living
This article is brought to you by the Kokomo Family YMCA. In our Youth Sports program, we’ve seen kids walk in nervous and walk out high-fiving teammates they just met. That’s the magic of youth sports at the Y! Don't miss out on registering your kid for our Fall sessions, with a full line up to choose from, including Sports Medley, Little Dribblers, Indoor Centipede Soccer, Youth Volleyball, and Youth Basketball.
For us, it’s not just about the game - it’s about the friendships, the confidence, and the joy that come with being part of a team. Our youth sports programs are designed to help kids build confidence, character, and connection, all while learning the fundamentals. Youth Sports Programs will start in November. Registration is now open: https://operations.daxko.com/Online/5014/ProgramsV2/Home.mvc
A well-known activist once said, “We never escape this life living.” He went on to explain when we understand that, we can stop being afraid of death. And when the one who seeks to oppress us understands that we are no longer controlled by the fear of death, we gain a measure of strength.
That statement got me thinking about who our real enemy is.
The Bible tells us that Satan comes “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” But Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). There is a difference between living in fear of death and living with the confidence that our life is secure in Christ.
Death is uncomfortable. It is not something most of us enjoy talking about. But as believers, the subject of death should not cause us to live morbidly or hopelessly. We understand that our hope is not limited to this life. Through Jesus Christ, we have eternal life.
The way we begin to fear death less is by seeking and finding our peace in Jesus Christ.
An old preacher once reminded his congregation of the words of Isaiah: “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6). The passage continues, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:7).
Oftentimes, the reason we fear something is because we know there may be something in our lives that needs to be made right. But when we seek God, surrender our ways to Him, and rest in His grace, we can have confidence that we are in right standing with Him. His grace doesn’t give us permission to live recklessly; it gives us the freedom to live faithfully.
So today, pray more. Stay in His Word. Seek His presence while He may be found. And don’t allow the fear of death to keep you from fully living.
Live boldly. Love deeply. Walk faithfully.
And most importantly, live in the purpose God has called you to.
