‘Favor in Our Blood’ celebrates family, legacy, and blessings

Local artist, muralist, and author J.C. Barnett III invites the community to experience Favor in Our Blood, an art exhibit celebrating family, legacy, and the blessings that shape our lives. The exhibit will take place Tuesday, October 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sun King Depot Room, 500 North Buckeye Street in Kokomo.

This exhibit is sponsored by The Hardie Group Real Estate Company as Presenting sponsor, and The Wyman Group and DJ Pugh as Patron sponsors.

The exhibit will feature original artwork by Barnett, including portraits of his own family members. Through these images, visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about the people who have helped shape his life and understand the significance of family in his personal journey.

However, the exhibit extends beyond Barnett’s own family. Recognizing that the people we love are among life’s greatest blessings, Barnett invited local community members to submit images of their own family members for inclusion in the exhibit.

For Barnett, the idea is simple but meaningful. Just as he recognizes the favor and blessings his family members have brought into his life, he understands that other families have people who represent that same kind of favor in their lives. By including these portraits, he hopes to celebrate those relationships and give others an opportunity to honor the people who mean so much to them.

The exhibit also connects with Barnett’s recently written book, Favor in Our Blood, which explores the theme of God’s favor and blessing across generations. Inspired by the blessings he has witnessed throughout his own life and within his family, the book shares a story that reflects the importance of faith, family, and the legacy we carry forward.

Barnett will be present for a book signing during the event. For those who have not yet purchased a copy, a limited number of books will be available for purchase and signing at the exhibit. Only 20 copies will be available, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure one. Wine, other beverages, light snacks, and refreshments will also be available throughout the evening.

Whether through a painted portrait or a written story, Favor in Our Blood invites people to reflect on the individuals who have made a lasting impact on their lives.

Barnett welcomes the public to attend this special evening of art, storytelling, and appreciation for the people who make life meaningful. The event offers an opportunity to celebrate family, recognize blessings, and reflect on the favor that connects generations.
