James “Jim” D. McFadyen
James “Jim” D. McFadyen, 96, of Kokomo, IN, passed away on Saturday, Nov 18, 2023.
Jim was born June 16, 1927, in Conway, NH, to the late John and Hilda Rae (Parker) McFadyen. After graduating from Lincoln H.S. (NH) in 1945, Jim was drafted into the US Navy, serving in the final days of WWII. After the war, Jim attended and graduated from the University of New Hampshire, where he was a proud Theta Chi. Upon graduation, Jim entered the US Air Force. While stationed in Colorado Springs in 1958, he met the love of his life, Nancy Allison, and they were married in South Portland, Maine that same year. Jim enjoyed an eventful 20-year military career, most of it in Air Force Intelligence, which saw him active in both Korea and Vietnam and took him and Nancy all over the world. Jim retired as a Lt Colonel in 1970. He and Nancy then continued their travels as he worked as a Food Operations manager for the Army/Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) until his second retirement in 1989. They returned to Kokomo to live in 1995.
Jim was a man of great faith, and an elder and long-time member at First Christian Church, Kokomo. He loved his church family and especially enjoyed his Christian Heritage Sunday School class.
He also loved sports of any type, both to participate in and to watch, and was a three-sport college athlete, as well an expert downhill skier. However, golf was his passion, and he played into his 90’s, staying involved with his golfing group even after physical issues forced him off the course.
Jim was a person who made the conscious choice every day to approach life with humor and kindness. His stories were plentiful and entertaining, and his relationships with his family and friends were filled with laughter and love. He will be greatly missed by many.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy McFadyen; his daughter Deb (Don) Andrews; his grandchildren, Reid (Lorena) Andrews and Rae Andrews; and one great-grandson, Jude Andrews. Also surviving are four nephews; Brian McFadyen, Alan McFadyen, Ken Harring and Albert “Stub” Allison, and two nieces; Kim Harring and Robyn Allison. Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Marion Foley; a brother, Eugene “Mickey” McFadyen; and a nephew, David McFadyen.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension St Vincent Kokomo hospital for the compassionate care he received in his final days. We would also like to extend special appreciation to Dr. Martha Hoshaw, for her many years of extraordinary care and comfort.
