Phyllis A. Cooksey

Phyllis A. Cooksey, 84, of Logansport, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 20, 1939, to Harland D. and Pauline M. (Burkett) Baber. She graduated from Tipton Twp High School and married Robert Cooksey Sr. on April 12, 1957. They were married for 23 years and remained lifelong friends until his death in 2005.

Phyllis was a homemaker, sold Avon and worked for Area 5, White Rodgers and retired from Small Parts Inc. in Logansport in 2011. She loved working in her flower beds, gardening, picking strawberries, watching people pass by in the neighborhood and watching for birds, especially her cardinals which she said were her pretty boy and pretty girl and reminded her of her parents who also enjoyed watching birds. She was also a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, James Dean, Garfield, and listening to the We Care Auction. Family was very important to Phyllis, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Surviving family include her children, Robert E. (Teresa) Cooksey, Deer Creek; David N. (Mona) Cooksey, Kokomo; Julie A. (Paul) Sagarsee, Kokomo; Debra K. (Greg) Wright, Galveston; and Cheryl L. (Clark) Smoot, Marion. She is also survived by 12 grandkids and 20 great grandkids and siblings, Russell A. (Evon) Baber, Twelve Mile; Carmen S. (Alan) Sharp, Greenfield; and Rita J. Baber, Huntersville, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harland and Pauline.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4–7 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston. Funeral services will follow on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Randy Smoot officiating. Burial will follow in Ever Rest Memorial Park cemetery in Logansport. Danny L. Kerr

Danny L. Kerr, 65, of Atlanta died Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Tipton on July 10, 1958, to R.T. and Jewell (Netherton) Kerr. Danny married Sharon Reynolds on April 16, 1983, and she survives.

Danny was a hard worker and great provider. He had retired from IMI where he drove a concrete truck for 28 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, always enjoying a hunting or fishing trip with close friends and family. He loved being a papaw and sharing his passions with his grandchildren. Danny was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Tipton American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Sharon, daughters Victoria Hufhand of Tipton and Meagan Davis and husband Joseph of Sharpsville. Siblings include Laura Headley and husband Mike of Kempton, Shannon Baden and husband Mike of Sharpsville, Phillip Kerr and wife Julie of Arcadia, Kenneth Kerr and wife Kathy of Texas. Danny has three grandchildren, Elle Hufhand (16), Halas Hufhand (11) and Amelia Davis (10). He is also survived by his mother-in-law Violet Reynolds and a special friend considered a brother, Randy Jacobs.

He was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Randy Kerr; his wife Marsha survives.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, April 11, at 6:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home. Pastor Jared Williams will preside. The family will receive loved ones beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday until service time.

Peggy Ann Scheibelhut

Peggy Ann Scheibelhut, 71, Kokomo, passed away April 3, 2024, at her home. She was born January 16, 1953, in Grosse Pointe, MI, the daughter of the late James & Bertha (Furton) Dunn.

Peggy was a 1971 graduate of Taylor High School. She received her associate degree from the Indiana Business College in Fort Wayne in 1973. She retired in 2020 from Western School Corporation after 25 years of service in the high school cafeteria. Peggy loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a member of the Kokomo Ski Club and the Kokomo Volleyball Club.

Peggy is survived by her children, Aaron Scheibelhut and Emily (Ron) Glover; grandchildren, Natalie and Lydia Glover; sisters, Janice (Mike) Diver and Diana (Fritz) Inman.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Ayden Joe Glover.

Funeral service will be held at Noon, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Michael Fuqua officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 am until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Frances DeLois “Lois” (Parvin) Bowlby

Frances DeLois “Lois” (Parvin) Bowlby, 73, of Russiaville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday April 6, 2024, at her home. She was born in Rogersville, TN, on November 5, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosie Eileen (Burns) Parvin. Lois was married to Ward Dwayne Bowlby for 51 years, and he preceded her in death on December 26, 2021.

Lois was a devout Christian woman who prioritized her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Honeycreek Missionary Baptist Church in Russiaville. She was family-oriented and was the best caretaker. Lois was passionate about animals of all kinds, flowers, birdwatching, and reading her Bible every day.

Lois is survived by her twin sons, Chad Bowlby, Reece (Paige) Bowlby; grandchildren, Saige Bowlby, Teagen Bowlby, Samuel Bowlby, Annalise Bowlby; step-grandson, Jaden Maxwell-Peak; brothers, Danny Parvin, Randall Parvin, Kenny Parvin, Donald Parvin, Timothy Parvin, Darin Parvin; sisters, Joyce Laudenschlager, Nancy Arnold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Virginia Scott; and niece, Lacey Laudenschlager.

Paulette Sue Browning

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paulette Sue Browning, a beloved resident of Kokomo. She departed this world on March 30, 2024, at the venerable age of 77 years. Paulette now rests in peace, rejoining her parents, Samuel R. Browning, Sr. and Elreana Gray Browning, her sister Eva Browning-Bynum, and niece Rochelle Browning in eternal serenity.

Those who were touched by Paulette's kind essence will forever hold dear the memory of her gentle spirit. She is survived by her loving sister Maxine Browning-Link, devoted brother Samuel R. Browning Jr. (Brenda), caring aunt Flora V. Williams (Melvin), along with 4 nieces, 1 nephew, 4 great-nephews, 7 great-nieces, and 1 great-great-nephew. Additionally, a multitude of extended relatives and friends share in the remembrance of her life.

A celebration of Paulette's life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the sacred Wayman Chapel AME Church located at 920 N. Apperson Way. Prior to the service, visitation will be held at the church starting from 10 a.m. until the commencement of the ceremony. The esteemed Pastor William Gary will preside as Eulogist during this commemorative occasion. Following the service, interment will be conducted at Crown Point Cemetery where Paulette will find eternal rest.

In honoring Paulette Sue Browning's life and legacy, let us reflect upon the grace she brought to all those who knew her and find solace in the cherished memories she leaves behind. May she forever remain in our hearts as a beacon of love and compassion.

Wanda Ruth (Brown) Marcus

Wanda Ruth (Brown) Marcus, 94, of Kokomo, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 6:26 am Saturday April 6, 2024. She was born in Kokomo, IN, on November 12, 1929, the daughter of the late William and Faustine (Cotner) Brown. On September 3, 1960, she married Robert A. Marcus Sr., and he preceded her in death on August 16, 2015.

Ruth was a 1947 graduate of Kokomo High School. She retired from Delco Electronics in 1985 after 32 years of service in production. Ruth was a kind and sweet lady who always looked for ways to care for others. Her family was her greatest joy and top priority. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and attending their ball games. Ruth helped coach her daughter’s softball team and she was always prepared to play games and catch. She was a faithful member of Lutheran Church Of Our Redeemer for more than 60 years.

Ruth is survived by her children, Robert A. Jr. (Tina) Marcus, Kokomo, Neil (Elizabeth) Marcus, Kokomo, Julie (Marty) Whitfield, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Mikaela Marcus, Makenna (Alexander Himelick) Marcus, Bailey Marcus, Kaden Marcus, Jaran Whitfield, Marlon Whitfield; siblings, Joseph (Melba) Moser, Helen Moore; sister-in-law, Betty Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; siblings, June (Chet) Long, William Brown, James Brown, Larry Moser; stepparents, Fred and Ruth Moser; and brother-in-law, Allan Moore.

Private family services will be held and officiated by Pastor John Dreyer. Burial will take place in Russiaville Cemetery.
