Joseph T. Crousore

Joseph T. Crousore entered Heaven at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family, and most importantly he was wrapped in the arms of Jesus.

Joe was born on June 20, 1942, in Kokomo, Indiana, the 10th of 12 children born to Thomas and Hazel (Benzinger) Crousore. He came from humble beginnings, eventually joining the Army National Guard, where he was an honorable sharpshooter and then the United States Marine Corps. While a marine stationed in North Carolina, he met a young woman, Glynda Smith, and they were joined in marriage on January 17, 1964. Joe worked at Kokomo Gas & Fuel Company (NIPSCO) for 32 years, beginning as a laborer and ending as a serviceman.

Joe spent many years as the President of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers at KG&F. It was important to him to ensure that the employees made a fair wage and had good benefits. Joe was outspoken and tough, and along with his co-workers, brought about good changes during tough contract negotiations. He loved to bowl, loved to gamble, took up riding a motorcycle after retiring at age 58 years, and was a “go-getter”—his job when he and Glynda traveled for her nursing assignments. He would “take her and go get her” from work and in all the places they traveled to, seemed to always have a breakfast club with contemporaries.

Joe was a Marine to the core. He was the last living charter member of the Marine Corps League in Kokomo and was honored to provide military honors to his brothers and sisters who served our country well.

Joe endeavored to give his children opportunities he never had. He instilled a strong work ethic, sense of patriotism, benevolence to others and humor to his kids. The kids survive, Dea Kent, and Joseph A. Crousore (Kathy Davis), along with Steven Kent, former son-in-law, who remained an important part of the family. His grandchildren are James Cody Kent and Kelly Christina Neal, along with her husband, Michael, William Kent and Brittanie Crousore. Great grandchildren are Raquel Kent, Koralyn Neal and Madden Neal.

Joe was especially proud that he had three nurses to take care of him: Glynda, Dea and Kelly. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. City of Firsts Cremation and Funeral Services by Rose and Geiger was entrusted with the arrangements. www.cityoffirstscremations.com
