Ruth Ann (Mobley) Miller
Ruth Ann (Mobley) Miller, 76, was welcomed into heaven on September 4, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones and precious children Chad and Shellie. She was born in Peru, Indiana, to the late Orion Hayes and Jennie Ruth (Causbie) Mobley on May 19, 1949. Raised in her beloved hometown of Converse, Indiana, Ruth Ann graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1967 where she played the French horn in the band and was active in the pep club.
Ruth Ann was a devoted mother whose children were her life’s passion. She was thankful and very proud of her children. She was proud of Chad’s independence, strong work ethic, church life, and his never-ending love of farming. She admired Shellie’s ambition and celebrated her career accomplishments, her love of baking, and her large circle of friends. Shellie was Ruth Ann’s loving caretaker for the last eight years of her life.
A devout Christian, Ruth Ann gave her life to the Lord after the birth of her daughter Shellie. Ruth Ann became a member of Howard-Miami Mennonite Church in 1985, where she was actively involved for many years and loved teaching Sunday School when her children were young. Throughout every struggle, Ruth Ann turned to her Savior Jesus Christ. She knew that God’s love was always with her, even in the most difficult of times. One of those times was as a newly single mom when she worked multiple jobs to provide for her two children. During this time, she cleaned houses, baked bread and cinnamon rolls, and sold Avon and Christian books.
Ruth Ann enjoyed a long career at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana, first in the radiology department, and then she was chosen to lead the creation of the Central Scheduling department. She retired in 2014 after 25 years of service. In her role, she gladly accepted additional responsibility to become a trainer on new systems at the hospital and then taught these new systems to departments within the hospital and in community hospitals around central Indiana. She was always happy to be a resource to friends and family members who had questions about how to navigate the complex medical world.
Her children take comfort in all the special memories spent with their mom doing the things she loved, such as planting flowers, gardening, traveling to family gatherings, canning, and baking. An avid sports fan, Ruth Ann loved cheering for her favorite teams with her family, including IU basketball, the Colts, and the Pacers. If you were a guest in the Miller house during a game, you had better come prepared to hear some spirited cheering and critique of referees.
Ruth Ann had a heart for helping others. She served as the primary caretaker for many elderly family members through the years. She is the embodiment of a life well-lived with grace and tenacity in challenges that would have rendered most people weary. Even at the end of her life, facing three critical health challenges (lupus, cancer, and diabetes), she was steadfast in her faith and never wavered from God’s plan for her.
Ruth Ann was ready to meet her Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ, and went into His loving arms the morning of September 4, 2025. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Bonnie Mobley Greenlee, brother Dennis Mobley, and niece Kristy Mobley Osthimer.
Ruth Ann will be deeply missed by her children Chad Miller of Kokomo, Indiana, and Shellie Miller of Noblesville, Indiana; her brothers William (Jewel) Mobley of Marion, Indiana, and Richard (Kay) Mobley of Converse, Indiana; several special nieces and nephews Troy (Judy), Tommy, Teena, Jeffrey, Matthew, Chris (Missy), Lisa, Mark, and Heidi (Allen); beloved granddogs Sammie and Chloe; and cherished grandcat Colby.
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during the visitation from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, with the funeral immediately following at 12:00 p.m. at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 East Main Street in Greentown, Indiana. Ruth Ann will be laid to rest at Mast Hensler Cemetery on 600 East in Kokomo, Indiana. A very special thanks to Matt Mobley, Bryce Mobley, Sarah Graham, and Julia Herzog for helping Shellie care for Ruth Ann in the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America at lupus.org.
