Janice Darlene Sissom

Janice Darlene Sissom, 86, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 12, 2025. Born in Greenwood, Indiana, Jan was the beloved daughter of JB and Marietta Curtis Denham and cherished wife to John Sissom for 66 years.

Jan graduated from Brownsburg High School and attended Indiana University Bloomington. She worked as a receptionist at Kinsey Youth Center. She was known for her determined spirit, infectious laughter, and love of practical jokes. A devoted member of Bible Baptist Church in Kokomo, Jan found joy in serving others. She was a talented seamstress and quilter, and she enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, neighbors, and friends.

Jan was a loyal, caring, and thoughtful friend with an eager readiness to meet their needs. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her family, especially during Christmas celebrations.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 66 years John Sissom. As a couple they enjoyed travel, serving in the church, and entertaining in their home, especially missionaries who were coming through the area to share their ministry. John and Jan are known for their hospitality and generosity.

Also surviving are their children Jay Sissom (Laura Kress), Joy Seitz (Christopher Seitz), and Jolie Whitten (Scott Whitten); grandchildren Carly Seitz, Noah Seitz, Nathan Whitten, Crosby Whitten, Allie Prieboy (Jade Prieboy), and Brian Kress; and great-grandchild Blair Prieboy. She was preceded in death by her parents JB and Marietta Curtis Denham, sister Atlanta Jolene Denham, and an infant child.

Jan will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and true and loving friend, as well as a faithful witness for the Lord.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, in Kokomo. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, coordinated by Jan’s loving children and their families. Burial will take place at Bethesda Cemetery in Brownsburg, Indiana, with a private family graveside committal.
