Catherine Ann Steiner

Catherine Ann Steiner, 95, of Kokomo, passed away at 12:26 a.m., Sunday, November 9, 2025, at her home. She was born on July 31, 1930, the daughter of Roscoe H. and Thelma M. (Fawcett) Garner.

Catherine was a 1948 graduate of West Middleton High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Indiana University and earned a master’s degree in Political Science. Catherine was a lifelong learner and shared her love of learning with her family and her students. She had a career that spanned three decades as a government teacher at Taylor High School, retiring in 1994. Her love of history and government came to life in her classroom and in the Mock Conventions and Model U.N. Club that she sponsored. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She traveled to 48 of the 50 United States, Europe, and to many presidential homes. Catherine kept her mind sharp by playing Bridge. During her retirement, she undertook new hobbies, including oil painting like Bob Ross. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Catherine is survived by her children David Mark (Karen) Steiner, Lucinda Campbell, and Robert (Lisa) Steiner; granddaughters Rachel (Robert) Mina, Amanda (Chad) Campbell, Amy (Kevin) Smigielski, and Stephanie Walker; and great-grandchildren Ashleigh Mina, Georgia Healton, Campbell Healton, Koen Smigielski, Addilyn Smigielski, Zachery Walker, Xavier Walker, and Isabella Walker.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roscoe and Thelma Garner; son-in-law George Campbell Jr.; granddaughter Andrea C. Thompson; brother William Mark Garner; and a niece and nephews.

A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Greenlawn Cemetery on County Road 50 North in Greentown, with Pastor Eric Roemer officiating. Jessica “Jessi” Joanne (Hackler) Shipley

Jessica “Jessi” Joanne (Hackler) Shipley, 48 years old, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away Wednesday October 15, 2025. She was born on December 12, 1976, the daughter of David Hackler and Sally (Ailor) Earlywine. On October 27, 2011, she married Andrew “Drew” Shipley in Fort Myers, Florida, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 2020.

Jessi was a 1995 graduate of Western High School. She attended Purdue University and recently received an Associate’s degree in nursing from South College. She was currently employed as a surgical veterinary technician. Jessi was the best mother to her girls. She adored the time spent with them, her family, and her friends. She was kind to everyone and held a special love for all animals. She loved hiking and witnessing many beautiful waterfalls throughout Tennessee. She also enjoyed relaxing on the beaches of Southwest Florida.

She is survived by her daughters Charis Garcia, Chaylen Garcia, and Emerie Garcia all of Cape Coral; father David Hackler of Spring Hill, TN; siblings Stephanie (Brandon) Beck of Westfield, IN, Emily (Nathan Kooi) Hackler of Demotte, IN, Nick Hackler of Spring Hill, TN; step-brother Austin Earlywine of Kokomo, IN; aunts and uncles Jeannie Sciortino, James (Cory) Hackler, Robert Hackler, Carol Hackler, Richard (Gail) Hackler, Debbie (Mike) Orr, and Jim Ailor; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Drew Shipley; mother Sally Earlywine; stepfather Kurt Earlywine; stepsister, Brittney Earlywine; grandparents Albert and Edna Hackler, and Ethel Ailor; aunts Susie Hackler, Kelly Carpenter, and Amy Reed; and uncle Steve Sciortino.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Alice E. Ziegler

Alice E. Ziegler, 78, of Peru, passed away at her residence on Monday, November 10, 2025.

She was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on April 22, 1947, to the late Kenneth and Pauline Markley.

Alice was a homemaker. She attended Friends Church.

She is survived by her children Stephanie Yeakley of Peru, Richard Studebaker of Peru, and Kenny Studebaker of Nyona Lake, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brother Bill Markley of Kokomo, and sister Florence Giordano of Kentucky.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Johnston, great-grandson Dillion Gallahan, and sister Diane King.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Travis Scott Thorrington

Travis Scott Thorrington, 59, of Kokomo, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born October 21, 1966, in Kokomo, the son of the late Brian Thorrington and Barbara Melton.

Travis graduated from Lewis Cass High School in 1985 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving until 1989. During his service, he was honored with the Air Force Training Ribbon and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, reflecting his dedication and exemplary conduct. Following his military service, Travis established a career as a residential and commercial painter, a trade where he was well-respected for his meticulous work and strong work ethic.

Travis is survived by his daughters Kayla (Logan) Brooks, Tessa Thorrington, and Janna (Patterson) Markham; grandsons Beckett and Paxton Brooks; and his brother Randy (Cheryl) Thorrington. He was a cherished uncle, known affectionately as Uncle Travis by his nieces and nephews.

Travis was known for his fun-loving nature and generous heart. He loved spending time in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes and sharing his creations with family and friends. Whether he was cooking up a meal, lending a helping hand, or making others laugh, Travis brought warmth and joy to every room he entered. His kindness, humor, and willingness to help others reflected his deep care for the people around him.
