Geraldine King Canady
Geraldine King Canady, 93, Kokomo, died on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Kokomo. She had been suffering from several issues. Mom was born in Scott County, Tennessee, on August 18, 1932, to Ollie (Mullins) and Ancil King. Papaw and Mamaw King had five children: Naomi (deceased), Geraldine, Deloris, and brothers Paul and Thomas. Mom married James Robert Canady on August 21, 1948. They moved from Kentucky to Kokomo, Indiana, the day they were married. James preceded Mom in death February 23, 2016.
They moved to Evarts, Kentucky, when Geraldine was five years old. She attended school at Coxton Elementary School, Pine Mountain Settlement School, and Evarts Kentucky High School. Mom enjoyed sharing many experiences of these schools, especially Pine Mountain. Living in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky provided lots of stories of snakes, woodlands, gardens, church events, coal mines, people who made up life experiences, and a very loving family.
Mom and dad had six children: James Robert Canady Jr. (deceased), Jerry (Rhonda) Canady, Gary Canady, Linda Taylor (deceased), Jeffery Canady (deceased), and Patrick (Judy) Canady; son-in-law Richard Taylor; and daughter-in-law Jennifer Canady.
Six children kept Mom very busy. She found time to enjoy reading, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and farm activities.
Mom and dad believed in Jesus Christ as Savior. We belong to Bethel Friends Church located in Northwest Howard County, Kokomo, Indiana. Being a very small church, mom did much ministry. She was a leader for Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School, and transported many children to and from church activities. She served on leadership committees such as Ministries and Council, and Clerk of the Meeting. When Mom and Dad moved, they always were active in their churches.
As Mom and Dad got older, they moved north again, from Florida to London, Kentucky, in 2005, then back to Kokomo in 2015.
They had 16 grandchildren: Andy, Carrie, Allison, Nathaniel, Gabriel, Caitlynn, Matthew, Brooke, Zachary, Richard, Chirstopher, Blake, Lauren, Renee, Coty, and Mary; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild coming in August of 2026.
Psalm 127:4-5 – Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
Geraldine was a faithful Christian. She read the Bible through many times and enjoyed discussing it. She prayed for her family faithfully to the end of her life. She encourages all to accept Jesus as Savior and live for him.
