Jane Ann Sparlin

Jane Ann Sparlin, 71, Kokomo, passed away at 2:32 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, at Community Hospital North. She was born on July 15, 1954, the daughter of the late Roscoe James “R.J.” and Betty Lou (Teter) Densborn. On June 18, 1977, she married Alan Louis Sparlin, and he survives.

Jane graduated from Kokomo High School in 1972, Ball State University in 1976, and earned a master’s degree from Indiana University. She took pride in taking care of her family and their home. She was a substitute teacher for Kokomo Center Schools when they needed her. She enjoyed going to rummage sales, line dancing, and walking with friends. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Kokomo and had been attending the Bennett’s Switch Community Church, where she attended Bible studies and church activities.

Along with her husband Alan, she is survived by her daughter Emily (Max) Boyle; grandchildren Grace Gamblin, Riley Boyle, and Allie Boyle; sister-in-law Rita Grawey; mother-in-law Eula Rash; nieces Amy Densborn, Lisa Densborn, and Danya Rood; nephew Thomas Grawey; and dog Sammy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Chad; and brother Steve Densborn.

Friends are invited to visit the family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. A funeral service celebrating Jane’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the funeral home, with Pastor Norman Snyder officiating. Rosie Mae Story

A resident at Legacy at Waterford, Rosie Mae Story transitioned at 3:13 a.m. on June 10, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo. Rosie, a.k.a. “Mae-Mae,” which she was known as by her nieces and nephews later in life, was born on February 17, 1948, to the late Hardy M. and Earnestine (Edgeston) in Falkner, Mississippi. Her family moved to Kokomo in 1965.

Rosie was a 1968 graduate of Kokomo High School. Rosie was passionate about helping others. She worked in the healthcare field for more than 30 years. Rosie was previously employed at Americana Healthcare, St. Joseph Hospital, Cuneo Press, PL Porter, and private in-home care. She was employed by Indiana Mentor as a Program Support Services Professional in the community with developmental and intellectual adults for 16 years until a stroke on Nov. 25, 2014, prevented her from returning to work.

Rosie enjoyed playing solitaire and shopping online. She did not allow Yolanda to interfere with her high score. She enjoyed going cruising, visiting the casino, and cooking for her family. Her favorite vacation destinations were Las Vegas and San Diego. She was also a proud Boilermaker mom.

She leaves behind daughters Yolanda M. Phillips of Kokomo and Chastity N. Story of Indianapolis, grandson Braxton C. Phillips and wife Samantha J. Phillips of Noblesville, great-grandchildren Aureliana A. and Charles X. Phillips, brothers Larry (Arnesta), Charles (Kim), and Travis Story, sisters Mary Dickerson, Evelyn Story, and Mildred (Nate) Richardson, all of Kokomo, and special friends Ida Cohen, Phyllis Kile, Marva Trice, and Joyce Wilgus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, great-grandson Matthew I. Baker, brothers Murry T, William and Corey Story, and sisters Cora and Teri Story and Fostene Fox. Her beloved fur baby Sophie passed away on May 13, 2026.

The family would like to give a special Thank You to Legacy at Waterford Place and the Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo doctors and staff for the care and compassion given to Rosie and her family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 819 N. Apperson Way, Kokomo, with Pastor Edward S. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of the service. William “Bill” Joe Payne

William “Bill” Joe Payne, 101 years old, of Kokomo, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026, at home. He was born on October 4, 1924, at home in Clinton County, IN, the son of John Leonard Wilkinson Payne and Effie Marie (Johnson) Payne. On April 10, 1943, he married Vivian Wheeler, and she survives.

Bill was a 1942 graduate of Russiaville High School. He held various employments throughout his life. He started his life as a farmer. He then owned and operated a gas station in Russiaville. He retired three times from Chrysler Corp. as the Fire Chief and Security. Bill was a realtor, a car salesman, an insurance adjustor, a driver for Shell Oil, and was at Delco for a short time. Bill was the most social and talkative guy who never knew a stranger. He liked gardening, genealogy, crossword puzzles, completing yardwork, and raising his family. Bill was a member of the Russiaville and Taylor Lions Clubs. He formerly taught Sunday School at Russiaville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by children Judith Tubach and Deborah Payne; grandchildren Martin Harbin, Scott Harbin, Diane (Richard) Scott, and Kathryn Fuller; sister Patricia Burette; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son John Payne; granddaughter Patricia Ann Harbin; and several brothers and sisters.

Bill’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Paradigm Hospice and their nurses, as well as the caregivers from Heart and Soul, for the excellent care they provided to him.

Lila Lou Broughton

Lila Lou Broughton, 85, Kokomo, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent in Kokomo. She was born March 2, 1941, in Elwood, the daughter of the late Maurice & Marjorie (Runyan) Dean.

Lila was a 1959 graduate of Eastern High School. She retired as a press operator for Syndicate Sales after 38 years of service. Lila was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, watching wrestling, putting puzzles together, socializing with friends, and looked forward to family gatherings. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Jerome Christian Church.

Lila is survived by her son James (Madge) Broughton; siblings Larry (Sheryl) Dean and Susan (Ralph) Taylor; grandson Adam (Jamie) Earnheart; great-grandsons Zane and J.D.; step-grandchildren Shandell Eller, Megan Hollis, and Taylor Hollis; step-great-grandchildren Zipora Jade and Lucy.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law Jane and Dave Earnheart; and brother Wayne Dean.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home 112 E. Main Street, Greentown. Burial will follow in Simpson Cemetery. Timothy Collier, Jr.

Timothy Collier, Jr., 92, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026. Born on December 29, 1933, in Royal Center, Indiana, Timothy lived a long and meaningful life centered around family, hard work, service, and friendship.

Timothy was a proud graduate of Royal Center High School, class of 1951. Following graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War era from 1953 to 1957. After his military service, Timothy spent 14 years working on the railroads before beginning a 30-year career on the Chrysler production line, from which he later retired.

Timothy enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He loved spending time out on the water, traveling, bowling, and most of all, talking with others and socializing with friends and family. He was known for his friendly nature, hardworking spirit, and the relationships he built throughout his life.

On June 2, 1972, Timothy married the love of his life Margaret Collier, with whom he shared many devoted years of marriage.

He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret Collier; sons William Collier (Jessica) and Timothy A. Collier; and grandchildren Ty Collier, Mavric Collier (Hattie), and Ashley Cogswell.

He was preceded in death by his father Timothy Collier; mother Nelly Collier; sister Jane Anderson; brother Roy Collier; and daughter-in-law Sheila Collier.

In accordance with Timothy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service held.

Timothy will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.



Daniel W. Rash

Daniel W. Rash, 79, was born February 24, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away on June 1, 2026.

Daniel moved to Kokomo with his family at a very young age. From those early years, he found happiness in the outdoors — swimming, playing baseball, riding his motorcycle, and spending time outside — pursuits that reflected an enduring appreciation for fresh air, open space, and the quiet satisfaction of an active day.

After graduating from high school, Daniel enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor. Following his military career, he began working for Delco Electronics, where he built a long and faithful career and eventually retired after many years of employment; an example of the reliability and perseverance that marked his life.

In his personal time, Daniel enjoyed music and found particular comfort in the companionship of animals, especially his cats. Those who knew him best will remember the calm contentment he took in these interests and the gentle care he showed to the creatures he loved.

Daniel is survived by his daughter Melissa M Hickey; his son Daniel W. Rash II; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Carroll W. Rash; his mother June V. Rash; and his sister Connie Kirby.

Dorchie L. Cockrell

Dorchie L. Cockrell, 66, Kokomo, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026. She was born September 25, 1959.

Dorchie was a graduate of Western High School. She loved to tend to her garden and her yard. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and doing crafts and puzzles. She also enjoyed painting Native American statues and spending time with her pets.

Dorchie is survived by her son Ryan Driver; mother Mary Lee; brother William Armour; grandchildren Kingston Sutherland and Addison Limely; and step-granddaughter Mia Hobbs; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dorchie was preceded in death by her dad George Lee and brother Terry Armour.

In keeping with Dorchie’s wishes, no services will be held. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation.
