Charles “Chuck” Allen Haxton

Charles “Chuck” Allen Haxton, 57, of Peru passed away at his residence on September 22, 2026. He was born in Peru to the late Andrew Lee and JoAnn (Howard) Haxton on July 10, 1969.

Chuck graduated from Vincennes University and later returned to work for the university as a CAD draftsman for 12 years, being involved in designing and building multiple buildings, dorms, and beautiful decorative university fountains/landscaping. Chuck’s legacy in this world will be the “behind the scenes Chuck touch” at Vincennes University. After being forced into retirement due to his health, in his free time, Chuck enjoyed going to hard rock concerts, especially with his cousin Bobby Lilley, shooting pool, fishing, and golfing, even achieving a hole-in-one during his lifetime, of which he often reminded his brother. He was known for being a huge fan of the Chicago Bears. Although he was married and divorced three times, his greatest love in life was his family and his niece and nephews.

Chuck leaves behind his brothers Andrew (Jill) Haxton of Fort Wayne and Sean Haxton of Peru; sister Crystal Haxton of Peru; nieces and nephews Cody Haxton, Connor Haxton, Madeline Haxton, and Samuel Haxton, all of Fort Wayne; stepmother Cleo Haxton of Peru; aunts and uncles Jane Lilley of Peru, Jerry Howard of California, Janet Quinn of Peru, Janice Depoy of Kokomo, Joseph Howard of Peru, and Jeff Howard of Peru; and 16 cousins, all of whom he loved deeply. Also surviving is his beloved dog Bear.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana 46970. The funeral service will immediately follow at noon, with Jeff Howard officiating. Burial will take place at Enterprise Cemetery.

Thomas Charles Farr

Thomas Charles Farr, 76, of Greentown, IN, died of aspiration pneumonia on September 26, 2026.

Tom was born in Elwood, IN, on January 3, 1950, to Lillian Doris (Ellis) Farr (1916-2003) and Raymond Charles Farr (1904-1970). He had three siblings precede him in death: Patty Laster (1940-2006), Victor Farr (1942-2023), and Barbara Clark (1943-2022); with three surviving siblings: Joyce Rybecki, Carolyn Haynes, and Rosalie Hancock. He graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School, continued his education at Vincennes University, worked at St. Clair Glass, where he developed a love for blown glass, and later became a laborer for Chrysler, from where he eventually retired in 2007.

It was when he lived in Kokomo that he met his wife Kathy Jo (Wells) Farr, and they were married September 14, 1980, and remained married for 46 years. Along with his wife, Tom is also survived by his daughters Amanda Jo Hueston, Carrie Ann Parkhurst, and sons-in-law Tyler Bryson Hueston and Nicholas Daniel Parkhurst. Tom was a generous family man who donated his time and resources and was even more enthusiastic when he became a grandparent. His grandchildren include Liam Thomas Hueston, Colin Joseph Hueston, and Baylee Alexis Parkhurst.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-5 p.m. at Ellers Mortuary on Tuesday, September 29, with a service immediately following at 5 p.m. Ellers Mortuary is located at 3400 South Webster in Kokomo, IN. Kenneth “Kenny” Joel Magnett

Kenneth “Kenny” Joel Magnett, 76, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on September 7, 1950, in Elwood, Indiana, the son of Aubrey and Gloria (Huff) Magnett. On September 23, 1972, he married Lenora E. Indrutz, who preceded him in death on April 2, 2009.

Kenny proudly served his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant and serving on the front lines in Vietnam from April 1970 to January of 1972. Kenny served with Charlie Company 1/61, 1st/29th Infantry, the 5th Division Mechanized Battalion, known as the Red Devil Brigade. He also served with the 197th Infantry Brigade, stationed out of Fort Benning, Georgia. Following his service, he remained deeply dedicated to his fellow service members as a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, a former Commander of VFW Post 1152 from 1988-1991, a founding father of the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization, and a member of the American Legion. He also enjoyed spending time at the veterans’ organizations. He will be missed by his brothers.

Kenny worked as a machinist for Chrysler, retiring in 1996 after years of dedicated work. Outside of work and his veterans’ organizations, he was known for his funny sense of humor and his love for listening to music, especially classic sounds from the 1960s and 1970s, and watching nature.

He is survived by his loving children Brian Magnett (Leah), Julie Magnett (Troy Vandevender), Mieke Spikermans, and Kirk Creviston (Petra); his cherished grandchildren Nathan Wyant, Ashton Magnett, Audrey Magnett, Austin Magnett, Kevin Creviston, and Megan Spikermans; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his brothers-in-arms from his military units.

Kenny was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lenora; his parents; his brother Benny (Linda) Magnett; his granddaughter Ashley J. Wyant; his grand service dog Eddie; several aunts and uncles; and the grandparents who raised him Grace and William Rayburn Magnett.

A funeral service celebrating Kenny’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main Street, Russiaville, with Evangelist Tim Grisham officiating. Burial in Russiaville Cemetery will follow. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Mary Ann Peabody

Mary Ann Peabody, 102, of Kokomo, passed away at 12:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. She was born on January 28, 1924, in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Ralph Dewey “R.D.” and Emaline Marie (Van Duzer) Meaney. Mary Ann married her first husband William W. Tremain on August 3, 1945, and he preceded her in death in November 1999. She later found love again and married Horace W. “Hod” Peabody on February 17, 2001; he preceded her in death on April 9, 2011.

Mary Ann graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with the Class of 1942. A dedicated and hardworking professional, she served as an administrative assistant at the Kokomo Howard County Chamber of Commerce and went on to work as the adult director for the YWCA. While at the YMCA she honed her skills as a seamstress and she spent many years working from home as a seamstress specializing in fur coat repair and transformation.

Deeply involved in her community and church, Mary Ann was a faithful member of the First Congregational Christian Church. She was also active in Altrusa, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Pleaters Plus, Smocking, the American Sewing Guild, and the Kokomo Piecemakers Quilt Guild.

She is survived by her loving children Eula Marie Marano, Billie Kay (Mike) Kisiah, and William R. “Bill” (Candy) Tremain; stepchildren Jack Peabody, Tom (Nancy) Peabody, and Linda (Alan) Babcock, along with their families; three grandchildren Ann Marie (Doug) Patterson, Michael Marano, and Marianne Fields; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands and parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her two brothers Ralph D. Meaney Jr. and George W. Meaney and her grandson Gregory Hyman.

Visitation will take place on Friday, October 2, at the First Congregational Christian Church, 505 W. Mulberry St., Kokomo. A funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Pastors Jon Tice, Kylan Dubbels, and Hayden Bewley officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery in Kokomo.

Nancy Jane Butcher

Nancy Jane Butcher, 71, of Russiaville, Indiana, passed away at 3:01 A.M. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at IU Health - University Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on January 9, 1955, in Logansport, Indiana, the daughter of Clyde Junior Yockey and Charlotte May (Vore) Yockey.

Nancy graduated from Lewis Cass High School in 1973. On June 29, 1974, she married her beloved husband Joseph Allen Butcher, Sr., in Kokomo, Indiana, and together they built a wonderful life centered around their family. Nancy spent her years as a devoted homemaker, creating a warm, loving home and proving to be an exceptional cook for her family.

She had a vibrant array of hobbies and interests, finding joy in crocheting, gardening, tending to her flowers, solving crosswords, watching Days of Our Lives, and caring for cats. Above all, Nancy deeply loved her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband Joseph Butcher, Sr.; her children Nancy Butcher, Christy (Edwin) Likens, Joseph Allen (Stacey) Butcher, Jr., and Justine (Daniel) Teixeira; grandchildren Kathryn Butcher, Breanne (Kyle) Brown, Brelynn (William) Hensley, Chase (Ethan) Reede, Kameron Butcher, Kaylee (Ryan) Leffert, Braidon Bailey, Skylynn Bailey, and Joseph Butcher III; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Shirley Yockey, Patsy (Billy) Logan, Clyde (Kim) Yockey, and Jerry (Pam) Yockey, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Charlotte Yockey.

Roger Dean Leep

Roger Dean Leep, 78, of Kokomo, passed away late Thursday night on September 24, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent in Kokomo. He was born April 14, 1948, to George and Betty (Creamer) Leep. On July 12, 1974, he married Kathy Nicholas, who preceded him in death.

Roger graduated from Kokomo High School in 1967. He retired from Chrysler and was a member of Local 685. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, and the Knights of Columbus. Roger was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and I.U. fan. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and cruising around town. Roger loved telling jokes and laughing at them. Above all, Roger loved his family, especially his grandsons.

Roger is survived by his daughters Christine Leep and Monica (Brian) Jones; son Brent Hill; grandsons Nick Leep and Jack Jones; siblings Marcia (Floyd) Shaw, Cindy Leep, and David Leep; sister-in-law Doris Leep; many nieces and nephews; and his cat Monkey.

In addition to his wife Kathy, Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kerry Leep; and nieces Shelley Shaw and Courtney Nicholas.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St, Kokomo. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Fr. John Nguyen as celebrant. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation.

Helen M. Kasey

Helen M. Kasey, 65, of Kokomo, passed away at 2:17 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at her home. Born on October 15, 1960, in Dronfield, Derbyshire, England, she was the daughter of Robert Allinson and Mavis (Peck) Allinson. On August 21, 1982, at First Presbyterian Church in Kokomo, she married Dennis S. Kasey, who preceded her in death on June 10, 2015.

Helen graduated from Kokomo High School in 1978 and earned her degrees from Indiana University Bloomington in 1982. A devoted homemaker, she also worked as a day care provider and a substitute teacher over the years.

A deeply musical and creative person, Helen was an accomplished musician who played the piano and classical guitar. She was an active member of First EPC, where she sang in the Chancel Choir and played in the Handbell Choir. Her many talents and interests also included stained glass crafting, sewing, knitting, and watching British crime dramas. She was a lifelong learner. Helen was fluent in both French and Spanish.

She is survived by her loving children Jennifer M. (T.J. Withington) Kasey, Rachel E. Kasey, Rebecca A. Kasey, Jeremy A. Kasey, and Laura P. Kasey; grandchildren Madeline A. Elliott, Benjamin M. Borders, Maxwell B. Dougherty, Wesley D. Borders, and several others; and siblings Elizabeth (Dean) Welburn, Richard (Adrienne) Allinson, Robert Allinson, and Christopher (Michelle) Allinson.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dennis, and her sister Patricia Yusli.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2000 W. Jefferson Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Joyce Harris officiating. Walter Joseph Solowey

Walter Joseph Solowey, 76, Bunker Hill, Indiana, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026, with his family by his side at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born September 7, 1950, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Walter J. Sr. and Anna Marie (Sedlak) Solowey.

Following his graduation from high school, Walt enlisted in the United States Air Force. From 1970-1992, he was proud to serve his country, traveling to many places and meeting many people throughout his career. He retired from Grissom Air Force Base where he had worked in weather maintenance. Walt had a strong work ethic and almost perfect attendance over the years, which was important to him. He and his family settled here, with his children graduating from Lewis Cass. This was home.

Walt graduated from Ivy Tech Kokomo with certification in Heating and Air Conditioning maintenance. He was later honored to be asked to teach HVAC courses at his alma mater. Walt was employed as a school maintenance worker for Southeastern School Corporation and Northwestern School Corporation. He also worked as a driver for an RV company. Delivering recreation vehicles all across the country allowed him to see the beauty of America.

He attended the Miami Baptist Church, Walt’s faith kept him strong throughout his life and his recent illness. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW, both in Peru, Indiana. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Indiana Oaks Golf Club. Walt also enjoyed bowling. Granddad was his favorite name; he loved being with his grandchildren and supporting them in all their activities.

He is survived by two children: Walter “Joe” Solowey III and his wife Sharon of Galveston, and Jessica Shepler and her husband Doug of Logansport; four grandchildren A.J. (Matt) Solowey, Parker Solowey, Scott Shepler, and Sarah Shepler; three sisters Leanne Tirpak, Valerie Arsenault, and Jeane Veazey; six brothers Tom, Mark, Kevin, Brian, Scott, and Matt Solowey; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be help from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, October 17, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, 1801 Chase Road, Logansport, Indiana.

A memorial service celebrating Walt’s life will follow at 4 p.m., with Br. Scott Solowey officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Air Force Honor Team and the Cass County Honor Guard at the start of the service.

Burial, at a later date, will be in the Crown Hill National Cemetery Annex in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness to support the “Silly Seals” his granddaughter’s team in the annual “Indianapolis Vision Walk,” a fundraising event he participated in annually. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
