Arlene had many friends and family who loved her very dearly. She was known by many names including Miss Annie, Auntie Lene, or just Lene. She will be missed by so many, but it was known how much she loved her family and her faith. Arlene was always there for everyone, some even calling her a second mother, or a long-lost sister. She loved to cook and was quite known for it! Everyone was always asking her for her recipes, I'm sure her recipes are out there somewhere. Just know, you'll never get the exact recipe as she did everything by heart and love!
You wouldn't catch Arlene leaving the house without looking her best. She would get her hair and nails done on a regular basis and would always ask "How's my hair look?". She was also known for her sense of humor and her quick, witty responses and one-liners. Arlene graduated from Shiloh High School in 1965 as the Salutatorian of her class. She attended Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, where she had an interest in majoring in journalism. When Arlene moved to Peru in 1968, she worked in a factory called Square D from 1968 to 1978 in Peru, IN before taking disability retirement. She was a member of Wayman AME in Kokomo/Peru.
Arlene and Willie had planned after retirement to move to Alabama together, however their health issues prevented it. They will now be together for all of eternity at their final resting place in Sardis Alabama, just like they originally planned.
Arlene is survived by her only son Shawn (Carmalita) Thomas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five brothers Bennett (Ethel) Thomas, of Sardis, AL, McKenzie (Philippa) Thomas, of Decatur, GA, Frederick (Sarah) Thomas, of Euclid, OH, Ervin (Bettie) Thomas, of Dallas, GA, and Carl Thomas, of Sardis, AL; sister-in-law Mable Thomas, of Euclid, OH.
