Jacqueline Sue Dolby

Jacqueline Sue Dolby, 70, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away April 25, 2024. She was born on October 8, 1953, in Marion, IN, the daughter of Richard and Mary Tubbs (Harvey).

Jackie graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1972. She worked at Village Pantry and Howard Haven for over 10 years. Jackie was a people person who enjoyed life and loved all those she came in contact with. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her great grandchildren. Jackie was a big Indianapolis Colts fan and enjoyed watching games.

Surviving relatives include her daughter, Dawn Dolby of Kokomo, IN; son, James Walker (Micheala) of Kokomo, IN; granddaughter, Alysha Maloney (Brian) of Lafayette, IN; grandson, Teriq Stephenson of Jackson, MI; brothers, Terry Tubbs of Noblesville, IN; Gary Tubbs (Jeanine) of Alexandria, IN; nephews, Ron Foudray (Samantha); Mick Tubbs; Scott Tubbs (Renea); Rex Tubbs; Travis Tubbs; Ryan Tubbs (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Tobias, Aubrielle, and Cassidy; special friend, Jennifer Ewbanks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Shirley Waters and Sharon Foster, nephew John Foudray.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Ellers Mortuary & Cremation Center. Cynthia J. Richardson

Cynthia J. Richardson, 69, of Tipton passed away at home on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Cynthia was born on May 22, 1954, in Kokomo to Durrell & Mildred Louise (Boone) Rawls.

She had worked at McDonald’s in Carmel, retiring in 2020. Her free time allowed her to attend garage sales and flea markets, always looking for a bargain. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, especially watching Tipton Little League baseball games.

Cynthia is survived by her two children, Christopher Hight and Amanda Hight, both of Tipton; a brother, James Rawls of Kokomo and five grandchildren, Madelyn, Samantha, Nathan, Lexie and Grayson. She was preceded in death by one sister, Judith Steele.

A funeral service for Cynthia will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Dane Hight presiding. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday.

A committal service and burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis.



Danny L. Huckelby

Danny L. Huckelby, 65, Kokomo, passed away at 9:47 a.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024, at his home. He was born June 2, 1958, in New Castle, Indiana, to Robert Lee Huckelby and Joyce (Denny) Creason. On May 27, 1988, he married Anita Marie Johnson, and she survives.

Danny was a “scrapologist” and was known as the perfect salesman who never met a stranger. He loved Coca-Cola, his Harley-Davidson, telling tall tales, and had a genuine love of life. Danny was a loving, loyal husband who cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Huckelby; children, Daniel C. (Megan) Huckelby and Karri R. Huckelby; grandchildren, Atlanta Huckelby, Savanah Huckelby, River Huckelby, Coral Huckelby, Haven Earnheart, and Kloey Earnheart; great-grandson, Thomas Ashley Jr.; sister Tammy (Kevin) Crull; brothers-in-law, Anthony R. White and James (Tanna) White; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Anna Lee Downham; sister, Vicky Roseberry; and grandmother-in-law, Helen Coldren.

A memorial service celebrating Danny’s life will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902, with Pastor Ed Vasicek officiating. Thelma Evelyn Winburn

Thelma Evelyn Winburn, also known as Granny, 95, Kokomo, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at her home. She was born on January 27, 1929, to the late George and Thelma Thompson.

Thelma graduated from Kokomo High School in 1947. She retired from Indiana Bell after 36 years of service, as a Network Administrator and Operator. After her retirement, she worked for the Russiaville Depot and McDonalds. She was a member of Crossroads Community Church. She enjoyed going to Bible study, crocheting, and working on crossword puzzles. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Thelma is survived by her children, Cliften (Kathleen) Winburn, William (Katherine) Winburn, and Evelyn Rawls; grandchildren, Jeff (Chasity) Brake, Donald Brake, William C. (Jessica) Winburn, Jachob Winburn, Amanda Randolph, Lesly (Aaron) Schlueter, Karla (Boston) Woolley, Allan Winburn, Deborah Rawls, Amber Rawls, Sarah Rawls, and Micah Rawls; many great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Marjorie) Thompson, and Karl (Karen) Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Scott M. Rawls, and Kenneth Rawls; and son-in-law, Estle Scott Rawls.

Theodore “Ted” K. Longfellow

Theodore “Ted” K. Longfellow, 63, Kokomo, passed away at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Community Howard Regional Health Center. He was born on July 24, 1960, the son of the late Kenneth Jr and Anna (Jacoutot) Longfellow.

Ted graduated from Haworth High School in 1978. He worked for Breakfast House for 9 years as a cook. He served with the Army National Guard from 1979-1980. Ted attended Abundant Life Church. He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of ABATE of Howard County. He enjoyed going to the Kokomo Speedway where he worked at the pit gate on weekends. He also enjoyed going out to eat at buffets and could be considered an honorary member of The Golden Corral. He liked going camping, and boating. He loved hanging out with his friends and family and having cookouts and family get togethers.

Ted is survived by his siblings Deborah (Rich) Jackson, David (Yvette) Longfellow, and Linda (Isaiah) Adenugba; nieces, Breann (Tim) Friar, and Amy Price; nephews, Ryan Wall, Stewart (Carolyn) Longfellow, and Joseph Price.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tim Longfellow; and a niece and nephew.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes - Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Toph Elkins officiating. Melinda K. (Buscher) Haggadone

Melinda K. (Buscher) Haggadone, 82 of Stevensville, Montana, died January 5, 2024, following a brief illness.

Melinda was born January 30, 1941, and was raised in Atlanta, Indiana, before moving to Michigan after marriage. She graduated with a nursing degree in 1963 and practiced as a registered nurse for many years.

She is survived by her two children, Brian Haggadone of Armada, Michigan, and Kimberly (Edward) Holstein of Florence, Montana, granddaughter, Victoria Fair, of Bellevue, Washington, and brothers Robert (Ann) Buscher of Plainfield, Indiana, and Phil (Pat) Buscher of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Judy Buscher.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at Arcadia Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Sondra Ann Wolfe

Sondra Ann Wolfe, age 82, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Sondra was born in Kokomo, Indiana.

A memorial visitation for Sondra will be held Friday, May 31, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m.



Dallas Franklin Etchison

Dallas Franklin Etchison, 91, died on April 28, 2024, at his home in Avalon Village in Hampden, Maine nine days after the death of his beloved sweetheart of 65 years, Marilyn Cotton Etchison, 89. He was the son of Chandos Leon and Georgia Waymire Etchison. His brothers were Carl Leon and Lloyd Eugene Etchison.

He grew up farming and participating in 4-H. Known as the “Frankton Flash,” Dallas was a forward on the varsity basketball team at Frankton High School and played all four years. His yearbook states, “[Dallas] is a dependable player and is always doing his best.” He played baseball his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He participated in Talon Club, the Frankton Eagles’ lettermen organization, for four years and was president his senior year. He was vice-president of his class his freshman year, president his sophomore and junior years, and business manager his senior year. He was on the Judging Team his senior year.

After graduating from high school in 1950, Dallas attended Butler University where he played basketball as a walk-on and pledged the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Dallas was employed at Delco-Remy and also worked as a carpenter and in a variety of farm-related jobs. He was deployed on September 18, 1953, as a member of Company “B”, 70th Tank Battalion, First Cavalry Division, Ninth Corp Army Forces Far East, Far East Command, United States Army. His captain noted that he served his country with honor, stating, “Specialist Etchison performed his assigned duties and conducted himself at all times in a manner equal to the highest traditions of the military service.” During his deployment, Dallas held the position of company clerk and played basketball and baseball. He was stationed in Japan at the foot of Mt. Fuji.

Dallas married Marilyn in 1958. They purchased family farms in Tipton County and Jasper County from Evelyn Fisher Cotton, Marilyn’s mother. Dallas and Marilyn farmed together for 50 years. In 2003, they donated a portion of their Jasper County farm, near Wolcott, to help create the Fisher Oak Savanna Nature Preserve operated by NICHES Land Trust (nicheslandtrust.org/jasper-county/fisher-oak-savanna-nature-preserve). Dallas drove a school bus for the Tipton Community School system (Bus 16) while farming. Dallas and Marilyn built a house in Hampden, Maine, in 2005, where they moved permanently in 2011.

Dallas served on the Tipton Community School Board of Trustees from 1977-1988. He was elected president of the Tipton School Board in 1980 and led the board during the expansion of the high school. Dallas was appointed to serve on the Tipton County Tax Board. He was elected president of the Tipton County Planning Commission in 1984. He was elected chairperson of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) Board in 1990, a board on which he had volunteered since 1966. He served on the Tipton County Board of Appeals in the 1990s. Dallas was a member of the Tetersburg Cemetery Board. He volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at the Normanda Christian Church.

Dallas is described by a nephew as demonstrating “quiet, resolved determination.” He was a fine mechanic and welder. He enjoyed vacationing in the mountains. He had a keen eye and collected many arrowheads while farming. He made apple cider and hosted many wiener roasts and hayrides for family and friends. Dallas was known for his generosity, sense of humor, big heart, and wise counsel. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a consistent provider. A person of integrity, he was loyal, honorable, honest, and self-effacing.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers and medical providers who have cared for Dallas over the years. Surviving are his daughters, Diana Prescott and Kathleen Etchison, along with Diana’s husband, David; daughters, Rachel, of Memphis, TN, Meredith, of Washington, DC, and Eleanor, of Orono, ME; Kathleen’s husband, Thomas Andahl; and children Connor and Marta, of Manassas, VA; along with many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Gary J. Coons

Gary J. Coons, a cherished soul known for his loving nature and courageous spirit, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024, in his hometown of Kokomo, Indiana. Born on July 18, 1957, to the late Ellsworth and Jacqueline Miller-Coons, Gary's life was a testament to the strength of family, friendship, and dedication to one’s passions.

Gary was a proud graduate of Copiague High School, class of 1975, and later honed his discipline and commitment to service through his graduation from the Correction Academy. His illustrious career as a Florida Correction Officer spanned over three decades, culminating in his retirement as a Sergeant in 2020. His work ethic and leadership were an inspiration to many, leaving a legacy of integrity and respect in the law enforcement community.

In his personal life, Gary's heart was fullest when surrounded by his beloved family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 41 years, Margieann Higgins-Coons, and his loving children, Bryce Coons and Tiffany Coons, along with Bryce's wife, Christy, His grandchildren, Ja'Miohn Coons, Alijaih Wilson, Seth, Austin, Ethan Rivera, and Destiny Bates will miss their grandfather's wisdom and the warmth of his smile. Gary was a brother to Richard (Diane) Coons and Bruce Coons, and he fondly remembered his late siblings, Ellyne and Stephen Coons. His life was enriched by the joy of several nieces and nephews, who will carry forward the memories of their kind uncle.

Gary's friendships were a source of great joy and support throughout his life. Close friends like Curtis Sellers and Michelle Boyette can attest to Gary's loyalty and the comfort of his presence. He was a friend who listened with an open heart and stood by you through thick and thin.

An avid NASCAR enthusiast, Gary's love for the sport was matched only by his enjoyment of riding his bicycle. He was always striving to improve and looked forward to each opportunity to go for another ride. A simple pleasure in life, like a good cup of coffee, was never taken for granted by Gary. These moments of joy reflected his appreciation for the little things that make life rich and full.

Gary was the epitome of a handy man, always ready to lend a helping hand or fix what was broken. His capability and resourcefulness were traits admired by all who knew him. His courage was not only evident in his professional life but also in the way he faced challenges, large and small, with unwavering resolve.

The words that best describe Gary — loving, courageous, handy — paint a picture of a man who lived his life with a full heart and hands always ready to build, repair, and embrace. His legacy is one of love, a commitment to service, and the courage to face life's adversities with a strong will.

Gary's life journey began in New York and ended in Kokomo, but the impact of his 66 years on Earth reached far beyond the borders of his hometown. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and will be remembered for the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the strength he showed.

As we bid farewell to Gary J. Coons, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with him and the lessons he taught us. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have felt the touch of his kindness and the strength of his character. Hilario "Larry" Alvarez Rivera

Hilario "Larry" Alvarez Rivera, aged 80, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in Kokomo, Indiana. Born on January 14, 1944, in Trancoso, Zacatecas, Mexico, to the late Maria Rivera and Luz Alvarez, Larry was a man whose warmth, friendliness, and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew him.

Larry's life was a testament to the power of dedication and love. In the spring of 2011, he married his beloved wife Roberta, and together they created a life filled with joy and companionship. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, guiding and nurturing his daughters Delorus, Virginia, Gloria, and Giulia, as well as his sons Nahum and Geronimo, with a gentle hand and a generous heart.

In his professional life, Larry was a respected employee at Fortune Management, where he dedicated over 30 years of service before retiring. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and diligence, someone who brought not only his skills but also his congenial spirit to the workplace every day.

Larry's passions extended beyond his work and family. He had a green thumb, finding solace and joy in the cultivation of his plants and flowers. His garden was a place of beauty and tranquility, a reflection of the care and attention he invested in every aspect of his life. Larry also had a keen eye for treasures, often seen at local garage sales and estate sales, where he delighted in the hunt for unique finds.

Known for being exceptionally friendly, Larry never met a stranger. His ability to connect with people was remarkable, and he often left a lasting impression on those he encountered. He was also incredibly handy, always willing to lend a helping hand or fix anything that needed repair. Above all, Larry was loving — a man whose heart seemed to have no bounds, whether it was for his family, friends, or his beloved dogs, Paloma and Moreto.

Larry's life was one of simple pleasures, meaningful relationships, and a legacy of kindness that will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we carry forward the lessons of love, patience, and joy he imparted to us. His spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of those he loved.

Larry's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories and laughter shared among his family and friends. As the sun sets on a life well-lived, we take comfort in knowing that Larry's journey was filled with love, laughter, and the beauty of the natural world he so adored.

Larry's final resting place will be in Kokomo, Indiana, where he spent his last years surrounded by the community he loved. At the wishes of Larry, no services will be held.

In the words of a well-tended garden, Larry's life was a beautiful array of colors, textures, and fragrances that brought joy to all who experienced it. We say goodbye to Hilario "Larry" Alvarez Rivera, not with a heavy heart, but with gratitude for the time we shared with a man who truly understood the art of living.
