Larry Joe Wright
Larry Joe Wright, 77, of Kokomo, Indiana, died at 11:12 p.m., July 2, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on August 11, 1947, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Keith J. Wright and Barbara Jean (Conwell) Wright.
Larry was a 1965 graduate of Northwestern High School in Howard County. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1966 to 1970, with a tour in Thailand and Vietnam. Larry worked at Stellite in Kokomo after high school graduation. Upon his return from active duty, he worked at King’s Heating and Plumbing. In 1973, he opened the Cape Codder Restaurant in Kokomo, eventually becoming Captain’s Cove. He also owned and operated Burger Express in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. In 1991, he opened Country Catfish Restaurant, which he closed and retired from in 2019.
He loved to watch sports on TV. When his grandsons played youth baseball, he was very involved in coaching their teams.
Larry is survived by his mother, sisters Kristie Smith (Tom) of Frankfort, Indiana, and Beth Andrews (Ed) of Kokomo, brother Ron Wright (Becky) of Chandler, Arizona, grandson Cory Wright of Kokomo, niece Michelle Andrews, nephews Mike Andrews, Derek McCleary, Matthew McCleary, and Sean McCleary (Brittany), two great grandchildren, and his good friend Bobbie Baldwin (Stephanie) who stood by him until the end.
He was preceded in death by his father, son Chad Wright, two grandsons Clayton Wright and Charlie Wright, and niece Corine Andrews.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston. Visitation time will be 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. with service following at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Caleb Baldwin officiating. Larry’s family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the Indiana Veterans Home in Lafayette for their excellent care of Larry during his time there.
