Terry Eugene Sheagley, Joseph E. Evans, Gene L. “Obie” Obermeyer, Dayvon Gatlin, Eugene “Gene” Jack Kostrewa

Terry Eugene Sheagley

Terry Eugene Sheagley, 65, passed away at 2:46 a.m. on July 19, 2025, at Aperion Care in Kokomo. He is the son of the late Fred Eugene and Carolyn Mae (Hooker) Sheagley.

Terry was a part of the Bona Vista Programs. He loved Hot Wheels and Coca-Cola. He was a loveable person who would greet everyone with a smile and loved to tell others that he loved them. Terry enjoyed collecting ink pens, especially blue pens. He enjoyed visiting his sister. He loved to get diet root beer floats and fried chicken. He enjoyed being able to volunteer and do activities during the day. He loved everyone and liked to make other people feel good when he smiled at them.

He is survived by his sister Tamara Williams.

A funeral service celebrating Terry’s life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, IN 46901. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with family from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bona Vista. Joseph E. Evans

Joseph E. Evans, 69, of Kokomo, passed away on July 22, 2025, at his home. He was the late son of Donald and Carolyn (Shaff) Evans, born on June 7, 1956. On July 4, 1987, he married Kimberly R. Roberts, who preceded him in death on February 25, 1999.

Joseph graduated from Kokomo High School. He is a U.S. Army veteran who served from 1974-1976. Joseph was a press operator at Syndicate Sales, where he retired in 2018. He enjoyed fishing, playing the lottery, and going to casinos. He liked running around town, talking to his friends, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by: his son Jason (Crystal) Evans; stepson Andy Beard; stepdaughter Jennifer (Ryan) Reynolds; sister Donna (Evan) Lewis; grandchildren Christopher Evans, Melanie Evans, Macey Reynolds, Ainsley Beard, and Carter Beard; great-grandchild Zylee Evans; nephew Christopher Evans; and niece Brandy Evans.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Greenlawn Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Gene L. “Obie” Obermeyer

Gene L. “Obie” Obermeyer, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Kokomo, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. He was born on August 5, 1946, in Kokomo to Clarence and Mildred (Chism) Obermeyer.

A 1964 graduate of Northwestern High School, Gene built a successful career at the Chrysler Corporation Casting Plant, where he worked in skilled trades as a machine repairman until retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic, pride in craftsmanship, and dedication to doing the job right. Gene’s hands were rarely still. He believed in the value of hard work and passed that ethic on to his family.

He married Ann “Marty” Willis on August 24, 1985. Together, they shared a life rich in love, deep friendship, meaningful adventures, lively rounds of golf, and cherished time with family and friends. Though life brought both joy and hardship, Gene held a quiet faith that carried him through. He was an active member of the Greentown Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Gene was a Little League champion catcher, a talented carpenter and woodworker, an avid golfer, and a skilled water skier. He was known for his humor and outgoing nature. Gene never met a stranger and had a gift for making people laugh.

Gene found joy in the unique personalities and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Marty, his children Kelly (Michael) Karickhoff, Stacy (Trent) Odell, Wendy (fiancé Nicolas Cipriano) Johnson, and Anthony (April) Obermeyer; and his stepsons Brad (Bridget) Willis, Doug (Robin) Willis, and Tim (fiancé Amanda Siler) Willis. He was the proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren. A special thank you goes to his grandson Nick, who lovingly assisted with Gene’s care in his final days, and also Lisa and Shyanna from Compassus Hospice.

Also surviving are his sister Rita (John) Pepka, his brother Don Obermeyer, brother-in-law Mike (Shirley) Conger, sister-in-law Elaine Conger, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia Witter, granddaughter Karley Johnson, brothers-in-law Dennis Conger and Henry Conger, sister-in-law Sue Reavis, and his faithful dog Scruffy.

A funeral service celebrating Gene’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Trent O’Dell officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family and celebrate Gene’s life from 4-7 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2025, at the funeral home.

Gene's legacy lives on in the stories told, the laughter shared, the work he proudly accomplished, and the lives he touched along the way.

Dayvon Gatlin

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dayvon D. Gatlin, who departed this life on July 20, 2025, at the age of 24.

Dayvon brought light and laughter wherever he went. He was known for his warm heart, quiet strength, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His life, though brief, was filled with purpose, passion, and unforgettable moments that will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.

Let us come together to honor Dayvon’s legacy, celebrate his life, and surround his family with love and support during this tender time.

Eugene “Gene” Jack Kostrewa

Eugene “Gene” Jack Kostrewa, 75, of Kokomo, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 12:32 p.m. He was born on April 29, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Eugene George and Mary (Jakes) Kostrewa. On August 29, 1981, he married the love of his life, Janet Tarantino, in Grafton, Wisconsin.

Gene graduated from Grafton High School in 1968 and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin. He spent his career as a dedicated Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial, retiring in 2017 after 32 years of service.

A man of strong faith and deep compassion, Gene was an active member of One Church and devoted much of his time to serving others. He volunteered with organizations including Urban Outreach, We Care, Kokomo Rescue Mission, and Courtside Ministry, always seeking ways to uplift his community.

Gene was a proud Green Bay Packers fan and had a deep love for Disney World. He also cherished the friendships he built with his Planet Fitness family. Above all, Gene was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in spending time with his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife Janet Kostrewa, his children Melissa Anne (Brian) Kotz and Michael Eugene (Moriah) Kostrewa, and his beloved grandchildren Karson Michael Kotz and Kennedy Anne Kotz. He is also survived by his siblings Sharon (Mark) Stalter, Linda Coker, and Kristine (Daniel) Simonson, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and two close friends Jeff Newton and Kareen Dunn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service celebrating Gene’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at One Church, 2734 S. Washington St., Kokomo. Friends are invited to visit with the family following the service until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
