Della Darlene McCoy
Della Darlene McCoy, a cherished soul whose life was a testament to her unwavering faith and boundless love, was called to her eternal home on December 4, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on October 1, 1958, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Bearl and Shirley Henson, Della’s journey began in a home filled with warmth and devotion, values that she carried with her throughout her life.
A proud graduate of Kokomo High School’s class of 1976, Darlene’s youthful exuberance and passion for life were evident to all who knew her. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone upon which she built her life, and she found great joy in her dedicated service to the Family Worship Center in Kokomo. Her commitment to her church and community was unwavering, and she often led by example, volunteering for charity fundraisers and extending a helping hand to those in need.
Darlene’s love story with her beloved husband Stephen spanned 43 wonderful years, a testament to their enduring partnership and mutual devotion. Together, they raised their sons Michael Thomas (Brenda) and James McCoy, who brought joy into Darlene’s life. The light of her world was her granddaughter Myla Thomas, who will carry the legacy of her grandmother’s love and teachings.
She was a sister, a friend, and a confidant to her siblings Cheryl Browning (Billy), Diana Wheatley (Tim), and Cindy Dailey, who will miss her thoughtful guidance and infectious laughter. Darlene’s life was also enriched by the love and camaraderie of her nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Darlene’s adventurous spirit shone brightly through her love of riding motorcycles, a passion she shared with her fellow members of ABATE and the FOP of Kokomo for 35 years. Her sense of freedom and joy was palpable as she rode, the wind in her hair and a smile on her face. She also had a deep love for dance, a reflection of the rhythm of her soul, and she never missed an opportunity to express herself through movement.
Preceded in passing by her parents and her son James McCoy, Darlene’s legacy is one of compassion, kindness, and an enduring passion for life. She was a woman who lived with intention, loved without reservation, and gave generously of herself to all who were blessed to know her.
As we bid farewell to Della Darlene McCoy, we are comforted by the knowledge that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, faith, and service, a tapestry that will continue to inspire and guide us. We take solace in the promise of our faith, knowing that Darlene now rests in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father, her journey complete, her soul at peace.
