Doris Morris
Born on February 16, 1934, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, to Hovie and Olean (Emberton) Jackson, Doris grew up on a tomato farm in Tipton County, Indiana. From those humble roots, she learned the values that defined her life-hard work, service to others, quiet strength, and faith in God. Those same values carried her far beyond the farm, allowing her to make a lasting impact on countless lives.
She was loving, caring, and a leader in every sense of the word. Doris showed love through encouragement, kind words, and service, always seeing the good in others and never having a negative word to say. Those who spent time with her felt encouraged, accepted, and genuinely loved.
Her faith was not something she practiced only through church attendance, but something she lived daily. Her Bible was always close at hand, and she faithfully prayed for her family, friends, and anyone in need. She often said, “Lord willing” and “This too shall pass,” words that reflected her trust in God and her steady peace through life’s challenges.
She had a lifelong love for beauty and creation. She delighted in growing plants and flowers and could name flowers and trees with ease. She found joy in sharing photos of blossoms with friends and family, a simple reflection of her appreciation for God’s handiwork.
Her professional life was one of extraordinary dedication and servant leadership. Doris was a nurse for 42 years, graduating from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and later earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1977. She served Tipton County Memorial Hospital for more than 37 years, first as a nurse and later as Director of Nursing for nearly 30 years.
At a time when female leaders were rare, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s, Doris stood as a respected and steady presence in predominantly male leadership teams. She led by example - gentle, direct, and compassionate - and often said, “If you want people to listen, speak quietly.” Her compassion for others was evident in every role she held.
Her service extended beyond the hospital into the broader community. Doris served as an Elder and board member of West Street Christian Church; served for 25 years on the Tipton County Child Protection Team; and was founding member, President, and board member of the Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives.
Above all, she was deeply devoted to her family. She cherished her three sons and was especially proud of her seven grandchildren: Jessica Morris, Jonathan Morris, Megan (Austin) Collins, Paige (Garrett) Owens, Lucy Morris, Tatum Morris, and Charlotte Morris, as well as her six great-grandchildren. She was an exceptional encourager, seeing potential in others and loving them unconditionally.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted, who passed away in 1986; her son Richard (Cheri) Morris; her sisters Juanita Smith and Lena Richey; and her brother Michael Jackson. She is survived by her sons Mark and Todd, along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special nieces and nephews who will forever carry her love, prayers, and example with them.
A celebration of her life will be held on February 20, 2026, at West Street Christian Church at 12:30 p.m. with a calling from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be offered to the Doris Morris Memorial Scholarship or to West Street Christian Church via the Tipton County Foundation.

He even lived aboard a sailboat for a time, fully embracing a lifestyle shaped by freedom, self-reliance, and exploration.
Eventually, Kenny returned to Indiana, where he cared for his aging parents while earning numerous certifications in a variety of trades. He finally became a heavy equipment operator in the Kokomo Union of Operating Engineers, a role he took great pride in. He retired from the union in 2019, closing a long chapter defined by craftsmanship, resilience, and dedication.
In retirement, Kenny enjoyed pursuing his many interests, including woodworking, gardening, solar electricity, and other hands-on projects that allowed him to keep learning and creating. His hobbies were eclectic, reflecting a lifelong love of problem-solving and independence. He also deeply loved his dog Sierra, who was a constant and faithful companion.

Alice Tonytte “Toni” Kolanko
Alice Tonytte “Toni” Kolanko passed from this world in peace on January 28, 2026. She was born in Anderson, Indiana, on July 9, 1938, the only child of Brice and Lorene (Cauley) Davis. Toni graduated from Lapel High School in 1956, and later from Butler University with degrees in English and Mathematics. Later in her career, she earned her Master’s degree in Mathematics from Purdue University.
She was married to Dr. Ronald L. Kolanko from 1960-64, and again from 1966-1974; he preceded her in death in 2020. Her parents, her beloved Aunt Jo, her wonderful niece Heather, her raconteur ex-brother-in-law Ron, and many adored pets, both dogs and cats, also preceded her in death. She had two children Kent (Karen) and Kurt Kolanko, who survive. Also surviving are two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three nieces, and three nephews (and their families), and three former in-laws; dearly loved.
Her teaching career began before she graduated college, as from 1955-59 she was an associate dance instructor at the Anne Harmeson School of Dance in Anderson (and performed at the school’s 50th Anniversary Gala; her tap dancing was picture perfect). After graduating college and a brief stint working in Indianapolis, she began her 30+ year career teaching mathematics for the Kokomo-Center School Corporation and later at Indiana University Kokomo and Ivy Tech after her retirement. She also tutored privately during this later period. The students whose lives she impacted are countless; she was always on the lookout for ways to help, uplift, comfort, and guide. In particular, she was involved in several academic teams and was the sponsor, coach, and choreographer for Haworth High School’s Gold Duster Pom-Pom squad until Haworth ceased to exist; her “girls” always had a special place in her heart.
She was heavily involved – for decades – in the KTA (serving as President for four years), ISTA, and NEA; and was involved in negotiations, conventions, and councils of all kinds promoting quality education, properly trained professionals, and fair compensation for teachers. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (serving as both President and VP for a time) and her local chapter of the Retired Teachers’ Association. She also served for a long time off and on the Board of Directors for the City of Firsts Community Federal Credit Union and served on the parish council for St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in the 1970s.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, IN 46902. In lieu of flowers, it is her wish that donations be made to Riley Children’s Hospital, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
Her remains will be interred at the Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, between her parents and with her other family.
