Peggy Jean Smith, age 88, of Vincennes, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 4, 2026
Peggy was born on March 27, 1938, in Jasonville to Wayne and Laverne (Hayden) Cox.
Peggy and several hobbies that included collecting dolls, refurbishing old jewelry into a new look, and Christmas ornaments which she would display on several Christmas trees. Peggy enjoyed performing as a professional clown for several years. Watching the children smile and laughter brought her great joy.
Those left to mourn Peggy’s passing include two sons Jason Clements of Washington and Tony (Deborah) Clements of Vincennes; two stepsons Bradley Smith of Lakeland, Florida, and Douglas Smith of Florida; four foster sons Zack (Allisha) Willis of Peterburg, Daniel Ragon of Colorado, and Robert (Stacie) Nodine and Ronnie Eads of Floyd Knobs; one sister Rita (David) Matheny of O’Fallon, Illinois; two brothers Roger Cox of Washington and Ronnie Cox of Kokomo; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Wabash Community Church.
A funeral service celebrating Peggy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, with Pastor Dale Biehl officiating at Wabash Community Church, located at 1033 North 10th Street in Vincennes. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
