Ed Beheler
Ed is Dead
On the morning of April 22, 2026, when the sun, in its radiant beauty, cast its beam of light over the land and an angel of the Lord, arrayed in even more brightness than that of the sun, came and carried away the soul of Ed Beheler to its last and final resting place in the skies, where today his spirit is basking in the eternal sunshine of God’s everlasting love.
Ed has crossed the bridge that spans the river of death, and today the mortal body we knew and loved is with us, while the immortal body the Maker knew and loved has gone to the home prepared by Heavenly hands.
The old voice we knew is stilled; but the new voice in Heaven is singing in praise and adoration to its Maker. And, as we turn our thoughts Heavenward, it seems we can hear the melodious songs of the blessed and see the beckon of our friend and brother’s hand as he stands at the portals of Glory land, waiting for us to enter the land where they never say good-bye. Even for the dead, I will not bind my soul to grief. Death cannot long divide. For is it not as though the rose that climbed my garden wall has blossomed on the other side. Death doth hide but not divide. Thou art not on Christ’s other side. In Christ united still are we.
Edward Donald Beheler was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on February 14, 1949, and passed away on April 22, 2026, with pain and suffering from the effects of prostate cancer and COPD, discovered in 2009. The parents were R. Joan (Smith) Beheler and Donald S. Beheler. He grew up with the best two sisters Donna J. Fink of Charlotte, NC, and Ann Holcomb of Port Charlotte, FL. After graduating from Eastern High School in 1967, he went to work for Delco Radio div. of GM., retiring in 1999; and then working at the Kokomo Howard Co Public Library from January 2000 until August 2013.
In 1969, his “friends and neighbors” selected him to use his talents to serve with the Army as military police in Korea. After being honorably discharged in 1970, he met the love of his life Debra L. (Smith) in 1971. They were married on August 26, 1972, spending nearly 54 years together, discovering life and tackling the world together. Together with Debby, they created edanddebby.com. Their love of genealogy and family was reflected in this labor of love. They spent many hours in cemeteries, the library, and on their computers to accomplish this passion project.
They were blessed with three beautiful children Edward (Julianne) Beheler of Lafayette, IN, April Weaver of Palatine, IL, and Amber (Sean) Kelly of West Lafayette, IN. Grandchildren are: Anna (Adam Chesak), Raleigh, NC; Lance Beheler, Japan; Trip Beheler, Lafayette, IN; Rainey and Owen Weaver, Palatine, IL; and Violet and Ezra Kelly, West Lafayette, IN.
He became a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church in 1978, serving as trustee (40+ years) and treasurer (23 years), as well as other offices. After Faith closed in 2020, Ed attended Hillsdale Community Church, where he found a loving church family. He served as a volunteer at the Food Pantry.
A service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, April 29, at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, IN. Friends are invited for visitation from 11 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hillsdale/Zion Food Pantry, 4893 E. 100 N., Kokomo, IN 46901.
While looking out the south window of the church, Ed noticed a single lonely tulip growing below the blackberry bushes among the thorns. Every day that he was at the church he would see it growing so big and beautiful, giving pollen to the bees and pleasure to the ones who noticed it. But, as time passed, it would die, and its beauty would be no more. A period of cold and gloom would follow as winter set in. But, when spring arrived, it would grow again. Just remember, because God sent his son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins, in the fall of life, if we believe in Him, we will not perish but have everlasting life in Heaven.
Yes, Ed is dead in his home on earth, but very much alive in his new home in heaven.
