The road to the Howard County Softball 10U tournament championship wasn’t an easy one for Dishon Transmission Service of the Greentown Girls Softball League. But they finally made it, downing Ortman of Russiaville for the 2025 title.

However, the girls first had to get past their league rivals, List Lawn Service. The two teams met in the Elite Eight of tournament, playing at Northwestern for the right to advance. And Dishon prevailed.

The game, however, wasn’t a bitter contest. There were no tempers to flare, no grudges to redeem. In fact, once the final pitch was hurled, the girls and their coaches did more than walk the line, exchanging hand slaps. They celebrated with one another. They consoled their friends and classmates.

In short, they epitomized sportsmanship in a way not often seen but always appreciated. There were only winners on the field and in the stands on June 17, and the entire community is better for it.

With the victory under their belts, Dishon returned to action the next night, facing Align Orthodontics of Tipton in the Final Four. A win there sent them to Northwestern for the championship against Ortman.

The Greentown Girls Softball League will celebrate alongside the girls of Dishon Transmission on Thu., June 26, at the league’s closing ceremonies, beginning at 6 p.m. at the GGSL softball diamond.
