The May flowers have arrived, and the April showers are trying to overstay their welcome. But last week, the Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market opened to excellent Spring weather.

Hundreds of local shoppers looking for locally crafted and sourced items were greeted with smiles and eager vendors, ready to get market season rolling.

As in past years, there was an impressive array of market stalls. Patrons searching for Spring plant starts and supplies or fresh flowers left happily with their arms full.

Similarly, the gourmands in the crowd were pleased to discover tasty treats such as sourdough, Moore’s pies, fresh honey and syrup, and fresher meats.

The creativity of local creators and decorators was on full display as well. Welcome signs and wreaths were hung with care alongside knitted tchotchkes and logo-emblazoned coffee mugs.

Information and entertainment weren’t left out of the affair. The Howard County Recycling District offered upcycling options while Ivory Moss serenaded marketgoers.

The Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market continues today, May 11, from 9 a.m. until noon at the corner of Mulberry and Washington streets.
