Dovie Dean Fisher

Dovie Dean Fisher, 78, Kokomo, passed away at 1:53 am Monday, March 18, 2024, at her home. She was born March 22, 1945, in Arkansas, the daughter of the late Andrew J. & Lynette L. (Williamson) Derryberry. On November 19, 1965, she married Ernest DeVon “Ernie” Fisher who preceded her in death on August 4, 1992.

Dovie retired from TM Morris as a supervisor. She was a member of Logansport First Assembly of God Church until she moved to Kokomo, then attended Abundant Life Church. She raised her family in church, read her Bible daily and took pride in caring, cooking and cleaning for her family, they meant the world to her. She loved watching sports on TV, especially the Indianapolis Colts and the Purdue Boilermakers.

Dovie is survived by her children, Monica Kennedy, Rusta (Ole) Erikson and Michelle Folks; stepchildren, Kim Fletcher and Greg Fisher; grandchildren, Brandon (Sabrina) Powell, Jennifer (Ryan) Horn, Stephanie Radabaugh, Christina Fisher, Jessica Folks, Emily Folks, Andrea Fletcher and Jessica Bartels; great-grandchildren, Andrew Helton, Kayli Helton, Emma Powell, Aspen Fisher, Jordyn Beverly and Larissa Beverly; nephew, Richard Hardy; and sister, Nadean Derryberry.

Dovie was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Teresa Bartels and Rod Fisher.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Jeff Haill officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12-2 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date.



Nancy S. Sims

Nancy S. Sims, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 6:15 am, Friday, March 15, 2024, at Aperion Care in Kokomo. She was born September 19, 1934, in Kokomo, to the late John Lloyd and Hazel June (Fenn) Royer. On January 13, 1951, she married Paul E. Jones, and he preceded her in death on August 27, 1986. On December 30, 1994, she married Jerry L. Sims, and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2018.

Nancy was a homemaker and had worked at Delco Electronics. She attended Abundant Life Church, in Kokomo, and had lived in Florida for several years. She enjoyed shopping and crocheting, had a love for animals and rescuing them, and especially liked cats and raising cockatiels.

She is survived by her sons, Greg Jones, of Kokomo, and Mark Jones, of Wartrace, Tennessee; daughters, Karen Jaimz and Teresa Ingle; grandchildren, Mark Jr, Lisa, Scott Jones, Brent Bousum, and Melissa Nicole Bousum; great-grandchildren, Craig, Hannah, and Ashley Jones, and Jesse Bousum; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brothers, and a sister.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Friday, March 22, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Aidan Michael Kearney

Aidan Michael Kearney, 28, Kokomo, passed at 6:50 am Monday, March 18, 2024, at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis. He was born March 31, 1995, in Rochester, New York. He was the son of Suzanne D. (Luitweiler) Kearney and Robert S. Kearney.

Aidan was a 2013 graduate of Kokomo High School. During his junior year of high school, he was a foreign exchange student in South Korea. Aidan majored in Computer Science at Ball State University, graduating in 2018.

Aidan had worked in IT for MISO Energy in Carmel for the last 4 years. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve from 2014 to 2022.

Aidan loved his life in Kokomo where he had made many friends. He always had a friendly smile for everyone he met. He was welcoming to all. He enjoyed opening his home to his friends. Aidan was a wonderful older brother to his sister, Gillian.

Aidan was an avid musician and gifted drummer. He was an Eagle Scout, and enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables, and loved to travel.

Aidan is survived by his mother, Suzanne Kearney; father and stepmother, Robert & Cheryl Kearney; sister, Gillian Kearney (Nick Michalowski); his girlfriend, Morgan Wright; grandparents, David & Judy Luitweiler, Bonnie Ruvio; aunts and uncles, Kevin Luitweiler, Susie (Greg) Eason, Michael (Sarah) Ruvio, Russell (Stacy) Ruvio and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Jean Billings and Salvatore Ruvio.

A funeral service celebrating Aidan’s life will begin at 2 pm Sunday, March 24th at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo V.F.W. Deacon Marty Stout will officiate the service. John C. Heuermann

John C. Heuermann, 61, of Russiaville, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born February 4, 1963, in Kokomo. He was the son of John Heuermann and Marcia (Imbler) Trinosky. On October 1, 1993, he married Cindy J. (Ford) Sewell, and she survives.

John graduated from Kokomo High School in 1981. He owned and operated Paint Plus for 22 years. He enjoyed the satisfaction that was expressed by his many customers at the end of a painting job. In 2006, he went to work for General Motors and was working at the General Motors plant in Ft. Wayne. John was a hard worker and a natural handyman and took pride in remodeling his home. John enjoyed beautifying his property, fishing, muscle cars and loved to ride his Harley.

In addition to his wife, Cindy Heuermann, survivors include his children, Ben Sewell, Brittany (Preston) Sadler, Sara Peterson (Shawn Kelly), and Kiley (Ben) Wetherford, and grandchildren, Kennedy Sewell and Abi Hayen.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home with Pastor Toph Elkins officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Ralph O. Hatt, Jr.

Ralph O. Hatt, Jr., 71, Kokomo, passed away at 7:28 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Century Villa Healthcare in Greentown. He was born January 6, 1953, in Kokomo to Ralph O. and Carolyn J. (Morris) Hatt.

Ralph enjoyed fishing, auto racing, and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed attending church and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Caroline (Jeremy) Dunham; son, Mark Hatt; grandchildren, Natalie (Dalton Davis) Hatt, Nathan Hatt, Natasha Hatt, Jeremy Hatt Jr., Jeremiah Dunham, Brittany Dunham, Jerry Dunham, Michael Dunham, Evanii Hatt, and Khloe Hatt; great-grandchildren, Dalton Davis Jr and Oaklynn Radabaugh; as well as sisters, Rita Hatt and Becky Hatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Ann (Graves) Hatt; and first wife, Brenda Wogerman.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Darlene Lavonne Piper

Darlene Lavonne Piper, age 91, of Peru, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024.

Darlene was born on December 14, 1932, to Walter and Jessie Onken in Greenfield, Iowa. After Darlene graduated from Greenfield High School, she went on to study Education at Creston Community College. She then spent several years teaching different grade levels, beginning in a one room schoolhouse. She was later co-owner of Hal-Dar Vacation Trailers for 32 years.

On September 26, 1953, Darlene married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Harold Piper. They had 4 children, Diane, Dixie, Darry, and Dan.

Darlene was a member of Morning Star Church for many years where she loved teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed countryside drives and traveling with Harold, spending her winters in Florida, camping and taking the grandkids on trips. She was also a very talented painter. She spread smiles and cheer by making and sharing handmade jewelry, cards, and baked goods. She was always outside planting beautiful flowers, feeding and watching the birds, and watching the butterflies go through their life cycles. She was a member of the Deer Creek Do-Ettes Homemakers Club and had made a lot of friends there. She enjoyed visits from her daughters, dates with her sons, and spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; Walter and Jessie Onken, and her husband Harold Piper. She is survived by her siblings; Gene (Barb) Onken and Becky Theis, children; Diane (Joe Turcotte) Sebastian, Dixie (Will) Minson, Darry (Cathy) Piper, Dan (Jo Ann) Piper, grandchildren; A.J. (Nichole) Piper, Beth (Noah) Mechling, Trelanie (Dan) Weirauch and Toria (John) Adams, and great grandchildren; Arianna Spencer, McKenna Adams, Oakley Piper, Glade Piper, and Hazley Piper.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 30, at Ellers Mortuary and Cremation Center located at 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, IN. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a formal ceremony to follow at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. There will not be a graveside service.

Darlene will be laid to rest in Springdale Cemetery, Santa Fe, Peru, Indiana 46970.
