Syble Louise Lipe

Syble Louise Lipe, 92, of Kokomo Indiana, entered into heavenly rest on March 26, 2024. She was born April 27, 1931, in Tillman, Oklahoma, to the late James Webster and Kate Elizabeth Bryant, nee Harris. Kate Bryant passed away when Syble was 2 years old. Her father then married Lottie Deville Windham, who raised Sybil and her brothers and sisters as her own. She married Robert “Dobie” Lipe Jr. on November 8, 1952, in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1998.

Syble is survived by her beloved sister, Shirley Jackson of Marble Hill, MO. She is also survived by more nieces, nephews, greats, and great greats than anyone can begin to count. We can only have so much room to list the plethora of family who loved her dearly. Aunt Sybil and Uncle Dobie never had children of their own, but treated all of the nieces and nephews as if they were their own. Syble was a very intelligent woman when it came to children. She loved on them all she could, then it was time to hand them back to their parents.

Sybil was preceded in death by her Husband, parents, brothers; J.R. (Estelle) Bryant, Billy Joe (Lavern) Bryant, sisters; Mildred (Dominic) Lazaro, and Bessie (Edwin) Moss.

Aunt Syble will be missed terribly by all of the family who loved her so much.

A visitation for Syble will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.

Ruth Mildred (Susie) Middlesworth

Ruth Mildred (Susie) Middlesworth passed from this life to her eternal home on Friday, March 29, at 7:04 PM, at Century Villa in Greentown. She was born on June 25, 1925, the daughter of Martha Jane (Smith) and Dorey Layton Maple. She spent most of her school years attending Jackson Township School, graduating in 1942. After high school, she attended Purdue University and graduated from the School of Home Economics with honors in 1946. After her graduation, she taught at West Middleton and Jackson High Schools before her marriage to Billy Middlesworth, son of Homer and Sylvia (Woodmansee) Middlesworth, in 1947.

Susie and Bill lived in Jackson Township and farmed for many years. During that time, Susie raised four children and also helped Bill with Gro Mor Nitrogen Corporation and Turf Builders Inc. She taught 5th grade at Eastern Elementary for two years before returning to her major, Home Economics, which she taught at Taylor High for one year and Eastern High School for 20 years. She enjoyed instructing students in cooking and Consumer and Family Science. After retiring from teaching, Susie sold Real estate when she and Bill developed Deer Knoll subdivision in Greentown.

As a lifelong member of Converse Church of Christ, Susie spent many hours in women’s and children’s ministries. While in high school, she played the violin in the school orchestra. Later she played in the Purdue orchestra, the Kokomo orchestra, the church orchestra, and several local string groups. She enjoyed playing and entertaining friends and family until her later years. She and Bill spent many hours volunteering at Howard Community Hospital after they retired. They spent many winters in Bradenton, Florida, and she also volunteered at the hospital there. She was a member of Jackson Township Home Ec. Club and Greentown Research Club. Bill and Susie also met monthly and spent vacations with lifelong friends called the WCM.

Susie’s first love was serving God, and her greatest joy was her family. She spent many hours instructing her children in home arts and 4-H endeavors, and she was always ready to shuttle children to music lessons, church, and sports activities. Her grandchildren remember baking cookies with Grandma as one of their favorite activities. She enjoyed crocheting and made an afghan for each of her children and grandchildren.

Susie is survived by her daughters, Jane (Robert) Millspaugh and Karen (Ronald) Swan, sons Stanley (Janet Kirkpatrick) Middlesworth, and Gary (Andi Stoeffler) Middlesworth, grandchildren Julie (Joe) Holderman, Kenny (Rachelle) Swan, Caren (Dave) Scheider, Christi(Jeff) Dismang, Brent (Karli) Millspaugh, Kevin (Karen) Middlesworth, Brooke Chapman, Emily Middlesworth, Drew Middlesworth, Alexa Middlesworth, Ben (Jordan) Reno, and Will (Markella) Reno. She has 24 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Century Fields and Century Villa for taking good care of her in her later years and during her final hours.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 am to 1 pm Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Converse Church of Christ, 301 East Wabash Street, Converse, IN 46919. Funeral service will begin at 1 pm on Thursday at the church, with John Clark and Kevin Middlesworth officiating. Ruth Helen Anderson

Ruth Helen Anderson, age 101, of Greentown, Indiana, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024.

A public visitation for Ruth will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Following the public visitation will be a funeral service at 1:30 PM at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN 46902.

Joseph Edward “Joe” Jeffers

Joseph Edward “Joe” Jeffers, 54, Russiaville, died at 8:05 AM Saturday, March 30, 2024. Joe was born November 11, 1969, in Kokomo, the son of William & Marjorie (Denman) Jeffers. On April 29, 1995, in Kokomo, he married Mikki McConnell, and she survives.

Joe was a 1988 graduate of Western High School. He attended Indiana University/Purdue University in Kokomo, studying mechanical engineering. Joe had been employed as a foreman with the City of Kokomo, working in wastewater and sewer maintenance. He had worked for Coan Engineering for 29 years and previously worked for Acraline Products at Tipton and at Service Merchandise. Joe was a perfectionist in his work and would not tolerate shortcuts. This would sometimes upset his co-workers. He believed he was at work to do a job, not to make friends. He was determined to give his employer quality performance.

Joe was a member of Abundant Life Church. He enjoyed watching and traveling to cheer on his children in their sports, helping to coach and train them. Joe was a bowler and golfer. He loved working on home improvement projects and working in his yard. He enjoyed drag racing and cars in general, especially Pontiacs. He could tell anything about any Pontiac ever built. Joe’s theory on cars was that it was a mortal sin to put a different model engine in a car.

Surviving in addition to his wife of nearly 29 years, Mikki Jeffers, are his children, Jocelyn Jeffers, Brynley Erb, and Braydon Erb; brother Tony (Nancy) Erb; in-laws, Lee (Jim) Remmers, Angie (Brent) McCoy and Melissa Jeffers. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Bill McConnell, and his son Braxton Erb.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Charlie Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Russiaville Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-7 pm Friday at the funeral home. Charles Cambron Doran

Charles Cambron Doran, aged 91, passed away on January 18, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Charles was born on March 23 in Maryville, MO, to William & Agnes Doran. Charles was the youngest and last surviving of the 6 children: William, Eugene, Marvin, Mary Louise (Gilbert), and James.

Charles went on to attend Northwest Missouri State University, where he met his wife, Maxine Hull. After their marriage in 1958, he proceeded to take Maxine on a 5-year multi-state odyssey, which would result in 4 children: Sedalia, MO (David), De Queen, AR (Dan), Amarillo, TX (Susan), Grants, NM (Sandra). On December 27, 2023, Charles and Maxine celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

It was in Amarillo, TX that Charles started his 25-year Finance career with the US Forest Service. The USFS took the family to Cadillac, MI, eventually settling in Bedford, IN, with the Hoosier National Forest. After his retirement, he and Maxine moved to Tipton, IN, in 1992.

Charles never shied away from travel adventures. His Navy service aboard the USS Onslow (AVP-48) and U.S.S Princeton (CVA-37) 1952-1955 took him throughout Asia and the South Pacific. He and Maxine continued to explore, visiting every US state, including Alaska and Hawaii, Canada, and New Zealand.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed playing golf and in his later years, going to the casino (he called it physical therapy), and quietly sharing his knowledge and wisdom with others. Charles is survived by his wife, four children, six grandchildren, Nathan, Andrew, Evan, and Jordan Doran (David & Laura), Alex and Michelle Gerdom (Susan & Andrew Gerdom). Charles had two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Juliette Doran (Nathan & Laura Doran)

A small, graveside ash interment service will be held for family and close friends on April 7 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Cemetery in Tipton. Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton is handling the arrangements. His celebration of life will be held April 8 to coincide with the total solar eclipse as when he would wax philosophically about life after death and that our souls do not merely reside in heaven but become part of the universe. We encourage those who knew and loved Charles to take part in this celestial event and think of him whenever they contemplate life, nature, world phenomenon and the cosmos.

Nettie Jo (Roland) Teague Rodney

Nettie Jo (Roland) Teague Rodney, 87, born in Elwood, Indiana on May 19, 1936. She was the fourth child of six born to Rose and Ray Roland and was the first of the children not to be born on the family farm. She peacefully entered eternal rest on March 21, 2024, in Century Villa Health Care, Greentown.

She lived in Alexandria, Anderson, and other local communities before retiring and moving to Tavares, Florida. In 2016, she returned to live in Greentown, Indiana to be close to family.

Nettie Jo loved children and children loved “Aunt” Nettie. She enjoyed the warm outdoors, singing karaoke, making people laugh, and the ocean. Though petite, she would fill the room at any party or family gathering as she made her rounds to meet and speak to everyone. And she had a special place in her heart for animals. Her favorite color was blue.

Survivors include brothers, Robert Roland of Sarasota, Florida, and Michael Roland of Los Angeles, California, half-sisters Edith (Roland) Johnson and Donna (Roland) Lacey, both of Muncie, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her infant son Bobby Ray Teague, husband Robert D Teague, husband James E Rodney, father Raymond D Roland, mother Rose Elizabeth (Lock, Roland, Bozell) Glotzbach, brother Ray Roland, Jr., sisters Becky DeVaney and Francis Jean (Balser) Sturgeon.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 pm to 4 pm Saturday April 13, 2024, at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 East Main Street, Greentown, IN 46936. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Saturday at the funeral home, with her brother Michael Roland officiating.
