The ladies of Taylor High School descended upon Memorial Gym last week to take on the Kokomo Lady Wildkats in a varsity basketball contest, but they came away with another convincing loss on their record. Kokomo rolled to a 65-34 victory on Jan. 17.

Junior Ma’Kaela Drake led the Lady Kats with 16 points and six rebounds. Her offensive output was assisted by senior Aijia Elliott, who poured in 10 points. Senior Darriuna Kirby managed a pair of blocked shots in a solid defensive effort in the paint.

Taylor’s loss only compounded their woes as the Lady Titans hosted 2024 powerhouse Lewis Cass the following night and took a 61-10 drubbing for their trouble. The girls travel to Wabash tonight in an attempt to improve on their 1-18 record.

The Lady Kats doubled down with another win at Richmond on Jan. 19, with a 46-36 score. Success was fleeting, however, as Kokomo dropped its contest at home against Tippecanoe Valley on Jan. 20, losing 41-32.

The ladies of Kokomo maintained their rhythm on Jan. 23, hosting the hapless Muncie Central Bearcats and coming out with a win, 70-31. The Lady Kats will risk their 13-9 record at home against the winless Tipton Lady Blue Devils (0-19) tomorrow night.
