As anticipated, the Kokomo Wildkats have advanced to the final game of the IHSAA varsity basketball sectional in Lafayette. The squad dispatched Harrison on Tuesday night, 69-50, behind an explosion of offense from senior Karson Rogers.

Rogers led the field with 26 points, shooting nearly 70 percent from the field and the charity stripe. He also led both teams with 16 rebounds and seven assists. It truly was Rogers' night to shine, and he easily put to rest any talk that Kokomo is a threat solely because of Flory Bidunga.

The big man has grabbed national headlines for nearly two years and is considered one of the top high school players in the country. And his 19 points and 15 rebounds definitely were needed in the Feb. 27 opening-round victory.

Granted, Harrison isn’t exactly a powerhouse this season. Its first-round exit wasn’t much of a surprise for a team with a .500 record, but Rogers and Bidunga nearly downed the Raiders all by themselves.

The Kats followed up the opening-night dismantling of Harrison with a scrappy, but convincing, win against host Lafayette Jefferson on March 1, 65-52. Photos and coverage of that contest will follow. Kokomo faces long-time rival Marion for the sectional crown tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Lafayette.
